Great price for what you're getting
I have been in the process of replacing my HT speakers, moving away from my piecemeal 5.1 setup (old Altec fronts, Bose surround satellites, Boston Acoustics center channel), to an all-Polk 5.1 configuration. From the research I did prior to actually buying anything, reviews seemed to stress that the RTI-A polk line sounds just about as good as other companies' speakers that typically run for twice the price. After listening to a bunch of options at the now-defunct Tweeter, I came to the same conclusion; I purchased this set of RTI-A7s for fronts, a , and for rears. I got the RTI-A7s for a song at Tweeter right before they closed, even cheaper...

Beautiful and Amazing Sound
I got these on a different website, but I cannot sing their praises enough. They, as stated in other reviews, are 42" tall and weigh around 60lbs. I got the cherry ones and my wife couldn't be happier. The all black bachelor pad look just isn't for us, but these nice warm cherry speakers are beautiful.As with all speakers, they get better with age. That is true for these more than any others I have heard. They start out a bit harsh, so much so that I almost regretted my purchase. Then one day, about a month after purchasing them, I turned on my Denon AVR 890 and something magical happened. The sound was full and warm. I thought my wife had changed some equalizer settings, so I checked...everything was the same. Each and every day that I use these (along with my Denon AVR 890, CSi A6, and RTi A3 surrounds, and PSW 125) whether for movies, music, video games, or whatever, I am overjoyed.One final thing, and I'm not sure if any other reviewers have...

Truly superb speakers
These are some really wonderful speakers. I auditioned literally dozens of speakers from Polk, Klipsh, Energy, B&O etc. Some of the ones I tested were 10 times the price of these Polks and even excluding price considerations, these were the best I heard (I even enjoyed them more than the more expensive Polk LSi Series).In the past, I would have said that I prefer loudspeakers with a more rounded, mellow, laid-back sound as opposed to ones that are a bit more forward and precise, but the RTi A7s changed my mind. They are not at all harsh or bright, and while they are very precise, they're not at all fatiguing to the ear. To my ear, these speakers offer a fantastic listening experience for both music and home theatre. And, while you're not buying speakers to look at them, you'll be happy with the real wood finish and superb craftsmanship of the cabinets as well.Of course, sound quality is somewhat subjective, so you should listen for yourself if you can. Great sounding set of speakers
I was debating on the RTI A5 versus the A7 or A9. The A7s sounded warmer than the A5s due to having 2 larger 7" drivers. I decided on the A5s however, since they have 2 6.5" drivers compared to the A7 only having 1 6.5" driver. I figured it was better to have more mid-range drivers as my primary application is for home theater. I have the powered DSW Micropro 1000 subwoofer, which provides plenty of bass for the low end. I would strongly recommend getting a powered subwoofer for the A5s. I mated the A5 with the timbre matched CSI A6 center channel and FXI A6 surround speakers which all have the same 1" tweeter and 6.5" mid drivers as the A5. I'm driving all the speakers with an Onkyo 808 and everything sounds great. Vocals and music are crystal clear. I would highly recommend this setup. I decided against the A9 since it would have needed an external amp to be properly driven, and was too large and heavy for my application. I got the A5 and CSI A6 in the cherry finish which looks...

Good Speaker
I been designing and installing high end systems for 20 years. This speaker is a 2 way that lacks low end rumble by design. However it does sound seemless at either 60 or 80 crossover with a sub. The speaker has a slightly forward sound so it will not mate with some amp's(Yamaha,Onkyo) without EQ settings. However, with my personal Marantz setup it tames them a little. A lot of speakers are priced at this point. These are a great compromise for HT and Music combo. Price can be found heavily discounted online at times which makes these a best buy. 2 channel sound can be done better for $1000 but these are HT speakers that can actually play rock,metal and sound really good. Not and easy task. I have always found the 2 - 6.5"mid/woof and 1" tweet the perfect mate for a sub system. The 5.5" mids many HT speakers use are better for dynamics in HT but leave a hole in the lower mid's during music play. Not these and they can be felt in the stomach at volume. Outstanding speaker with quality control issues
I bought my first loudspeakers a dozen years ago, and after listening to countless models I selected Polk RT's. I suppose "Reference Theater" is just marketing. And I don't even see the term spelled out in the literature for my latest acquisition, a pair of Polk Audio RTi A5's. That's probably because the movie studios don't *really* use Polks when they're mixing the soundtrack, but it does give you an idea of the lineage of these speakers and their intended use. They are made for the movies, and if you're passionate about cinema (as I am), then I think you'll be pleased by the A5's.You might be more pleased by the A7's or A9's. I might have been too, but the jump up from a pair of bookshelf speakers to a set of towers costing just under a grand was something of a quantum leap for me. And I was not disappointed--mostly.Speakers are like a pair of comfortable shoes. They're great when they're new and you love them so much that you maybe don't notice over time...

Wonderful Sound
These speakers replaced a set of paradigm's that I was i love with from day one. After nearly 20 years it was finally time to upgrade my system and these polks didnt disappoint at all. They are driven by an Adcom GFA-5300 and sound wonderful at every level. I highly recommend them to anyone seking serious sound.

Freaking awesome speakers-- but make sure you can handle them.
These speakers are freaking awesome-- IF you have the juice to power them -- and of course, only if you don't have close neighbors. I am using them with a ($482.88 from Amazon-- or $800+ from Best Buy) and they sound RIDICULOUSLY good-- you can hear EVERYTHING. I have them paired with a , a and 4x FXiA3 surround speakers.

Excellent Speakers
The first thing I noticed in these speakers were their ability to produce midrange sounds effortlessly. This may be due to the driver configuration, but it works. But I'm not going to say the mid range just floats in the air like the high end speakers but does the job well. They need decent amount of power to sound at their best. I have a Denon 3805 (120x7) and feel its bit underpowered for these speakers as I have to push the volume way up for powerful sound to be produced, yet they sound great. In the shop they had these connected to a Denon Stereo amp (200x2) which drove these pretty well.I used paradigm M9 as mains before (for 5 years) I got the polk and the paradigm were much easier to drive and their bass was more pronounced but clarity wise, polk wins hands down. Also I think the bass has better definition with Polk than the paradigm speakers which sounds bloated in comparison.These speakers need good source material(CD/DVD/Blu-ray) to show its true...

Great sounding set of speakers

Great Speakers for the Price.
Upgraded my Monitor 50's to these and what a difference. More bass resonance, great detail in the highs and bi-amping brings the fullness out of them. Thank Goodness my neighbors are friendly as they will rock the house. Polk does a good job with all of their Monitor Series as I moved the 50's to the back of the system and it all sounds wonderful with a good SACD cd or THX DVD movie.Not able to afford much more, but I feel that I have gotten a lot of bang for the buck.Paid a bit more at Amazon but with Amazon Prime the shipping was free and fast for those who want immediate gratification.

No better speaker for price
I purchased the Polk Audio Monitor 70 speakers 3 months ago.I use them for listening to 2 channel stereo.After listening to them extensively and considering what I paid for them,I should have felt like I was STEALING when I bought them.When paired with the right power source these are just unbeatable for the price.With the NAD C325BEE integrated amplifier these speakers put out an INCREDIBLE BASS response:clean,deep,powerful and tightly controlled,displaying great detail.Yes,DETAIL in the bass response.With this amp and Polk M70 speakers there is NO NEED for a sub-woofer.The mid-range is awesome and the high frequencies are crystal clear with no hint of harshness or stridency.After hooking these up to the new amplifier I was just FLOORED at the quality of the sound that leapt out at me.The human voice is reproduced faithfully with every sibilant and subtle expression captured.It sounds like the singer is in the room with you! Deep bass
I've seen some reviewers question the adequacy of the Monitor 70's bass response. I have these speakers hooked up to a modestly powered Onkyo receiver, and I find the bass more than adequate for all types of music. I like a deep, rich bass in my tunes, and I have felt no need to attach a subwoofer to my system. In fact, I've turned the bass down a bit on my receiver to allow the midrange to shine through. As others have noted, the midrange and highs are crisp. Be aware the speaker is almost 16" deep, so it tends to stick out from the wall.
