The best macro flash!
I use this flash with Sony A700 with Minolta 100mm f/2.8 macro and Tamron 180mm f/3.5 macro.I already have the Sony macro twin flash, but this ring flash is much more useful. It is easy to carry around mounted on the lens, it is faster to set it up, the light is more uniform and it is wireless. All you need is 2 AAA batteries (yes, AAA. Two of them. That's it!) and you are ready to go. Unlike the Sony twin flash, you can get 72mm ring, so you can mount it on the Tamron. The IR clip is just genius (it is a small black clip that you put on your built-in flash and it blocks the visible light and transmits only IR for wireless control). The built of the flash is very good. You can easily control the ratio and the angle of the two light source. Also the AF helping lamp and modeling light are very useful.I wrote the review as a Sony user, but the same unit can work with all the companies (Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Pentax and Samsung). You just set it up and it...

Lightweight compact flash unit - works great!
I have a digital photography device that takes close-up/macro stereo (3d) pictures and I was looking for a flash. After trying two flash units (from either side of the close-up device) and several macro/ring flash units, I found this Metz unit, tried it and love it.This flash unit is ideal for me for the following reasons:1) It is very compact, lightweight/portable, powered only by a pair of AA batteries. (I travel a lot, plus my macro unit is a bit bukly, so I really appreciate compact & lightweight devices and this Metz flash unit is PERFECT!)2) It is not a ring flash but a macro unit with two flashes on either side (real ring flash reflections in water, eyes, etc, are sometimes bothersome).3) I can control the relative intensity of each flash head from 1:1 to 1:8 on either side, or even turn either side off. This controls the amount of shadows (1:1 least shadows, one side off: maximum shadows). Usually I use it at 1:2 or 1:4...

so far so good
I have been shooting for a couple of decades. I have recently returned to macro photography after many years away, the last time was back in the days of film. No instant feedback and it was expensive to create many "trials".Now - simply with digital I have been able to have more success, and after a few weeks focusing on the smaller things in life I picked this ring flash up. I was using the SB900 with a D700 on commander mode before this. It was great, but now it is magic. I think perhaps there may still be a use for both - but immediatly I could see how the Metz was worth every penny.I love insects, photographing them, but I came how late last night. I photographed still life - pen tops - tweezers - screw driver heads - and the Metz made these "normal" objects art.If money is not an issue for this - I'd go for it.

Product Description
The mecablitz 15 MS-1 digital wireless Metz macro-flash, equipped with two individually-controllable, swiveling reflectors integrated in the housing for precise uniform lighting ideal for macro or special application photography. The remote TTL flash operation of the mecablitz 15 MS-1 digital can be used for Canon, Nikon, Olympus/Panasonic, Pentax/Samsung and Sony-Alpha.
