perfect hybrid
This is a great tool to have to switch between lighting a scene for a picture or lighting a scene to record video. It's a perfect combo for people that wants to have both of the best world. If your passion are shared between videos and photos, and you're not super rich that you can afford both camera flash and 1x1 light kit, this is perfect for you. It creates really great lighting around your subjects.

Product Description

This is the first professional LED light to combine “continuous output” and a “flash” feature in a single fixture. The Hybrid’s “Continuous Mode” provides luminous, wrap around soft output that beautifully complements the camera’s video capability in today’s motion-enabled DSLR cameras. The “Flash” feature produces a 400% brighter burst, which is perfect for illuminating a variety of still images. Litepanels MicroPro Hybrid on-camera light runs off 6 standard AA batteries, harnessing the company’s Emmy Award-winning LED technology in a lightweight, compact design. The Hybrid offers soft, directional lighting with the same warmth and outstanding color characteristics that make Litepanels an integral part of television, broadcast news, motion picture and still photo shoots worldwide. MicroPro Hybrid produces 1.5 hours of continuous output from 6 AA batteries or 5-6 hours from Energizer e2 Lithium cells. The system can be run off of either standard or rechargeable batteries. Power can be supplied optionally through a convenient 5-16V input jack located on the back of the unit. At the top of the Hybrid housing, a convenient integrated dimmer offers instant 100% to 0 dimming with minimal color shift. Output is flicker free and heat free and remains consistent. For greater versatility, an integrated filter holder on the face of the light allows for work with three included color/diffusion gels. Additional filters can be conveniently stored on the back of the fixture. A Strobe Sync Cable included at the base of the unit simply plugs in to enable a strobe function. This product rocks...
I got this unit ( 2 of them) I shot using my Canon 40D it was great, also videoed a wedding and it was great for fill in and indoors.. overall I have no complaints it's pretty well thought out. the ability to adjust the brightness is great, also the fact you can use 6AA batteries works as I have a energizer 15min quick charger and these light last pretty long on a charge. They give off zero heat, and you can use with stands, umbrellas etc... The mount is alloy not plastic like the micro, so the pro is for sure better.

The heat free LCD design gives a cool continuous light at 5600k for consistent color balance. A built in dimmer switch assures perfectly controlled light whether using AA battery power or the optional AC adapter. up to 1-1.5 hours of use can be achieved with standard AA batteries and 5-6 hours when using lithium batteries. An attached camera shoe makes for easy mounting while the adjustable tilt mechanism provides adjustment for perfect alignment. Not Bad for what's available at this time
**Update. When I first fired this baby up, I had put in some rechargeable batteries that were laying around. The lightout put was pretty good.Then I put a fresh set in, and WOW, what a difference. This thing is BRIGHT. I was able to add some real nice fill in at night from 35 feet away fromthe subject. Now I am VERY happy I got this light.I am a full time professional photographer, getting into video as well. For flash, I have 5 580EX flashes with the Honl adapters, and for strobe, I have theElinchrom D-Lite units. I have been just using the modeling light on the Elinchrom's for stills, especially with an 85mm 1.2 lens where I don't need much light.This has been ok, though they are 3200 bulbs, and only 100 watts of modeling light. This would not be ok with video, as the color is tungsten, and not bright at all. So with video, the question became, "what can I get to start with for a videolight source that is portable, and not...
