Dust free. Fast, but not magically fast.
The thing that's most cool about these Festool sanders is thatyou can literally work without a dust mask with no problems. Ihave sanded for hours using the Rotex without a dust mask. Mysinuses get irritated by wood dust fairly easily, but wearinga respirator is irritating too.Even though all the woodworking authorities are going to tellyou to always wear a dust mask, a lightweight mask doesn't worktoo well and a real respirator makes you feel like Darth Vader.So, as a practical matter I don't wear a mask when working withwood as often as I should... which is why it's a good thing Ihave the Rotex sander. Mine is an earlier version than thecurrent model, with a less-sleek appearance and no knuckle guard.I haven't used the Rotex with the knuckle guard but I'm suspiciousbecause I have a habit of steering the sander by the strain relieveron the cord. This may strike you as a funny habit, but...

It offers an aggressive, gear-driven rotary mode for rapid stock removal. This high-torque, low-rpm mode offers a removal rate similar to what you would expect from a belt sander or an angle grinder.
