The perfect large folder
I've had this knife for over a year now, and it never lets me down. Although it is large, it can still easily fit in a pocket. The AUS-8a steel blade is comparable to 430 stainless and thus resists corrosion; however, it has a more natural tendency to take a good edge than most other stainless steels. The handle offers quite a secure and ergonomic grip. The blade lock is (IMHO) the most favored system and offers a secure safeguard against an accidental close. If you want a quality folder that is rugged in every sense of the word, the MULE should be at least a consideration.

Amazing.
This may as well be the king of all folders, because with its solid feel and design, weighing about a half pound with 4 inches of quarter-inch thick (doesn't sound like much, but for a knife, it's pretty dense)AUS-8a steel, and it cut everything that I've put to the test so far. When you hold it, you know that it is that KaBar quality. The blade is motionless even when I've attempted to shake it around to test its construction. Its handle is definitely meant to be held for the human hand, unlike some other knives out there. It cuts through index cards and cardboard like tissue paper, and saws through wood with ease. It comes RAZOR sharp from the package, and I have a feeling that I won't ever have to sharpen it. . .it's stayed extremely sharp for about 3 weeks now, and I use it almost every day. The blade locks in place with a satisfying *click*, and when it's time to put it away, the disengaging mechanism happens to be on the back of the handle, which is a really nice and stable...

Pleasantly Surprised
I've been looking into Ka-bar knives for a while, but could never justify buying one for myself. I got the mule folder for my dad as a birthday present. When I opened the box to check the goods, the first thing that struck me was the weight. At roughly half a pound in weight, The knife definitely feels like it can take a beating and keep on trucking with little to no problem. Although there is no pommel as a part of the design, the handle still feels solid enough for use as an improvised hammer out in the wilderness. the second thing that struck me was the handle. The combination of the grooves and the small rubber in-laces in the handle on both sides make for a comfortable and secure grip which is surprisingly unhindered by the carrying clip. I cannot vouch for its comfort level in left handed users though. (Haven't tried it.) Another thing, the blade is hella sharp out of the box. I only gently brushed the blade against the pad of my finger and I found myself nursing a nasty little...

Great Folding Knife
I bought this Ka-Bar Mule Field Folder Knife about a year ago to replace a similarily priced (but somewhat dull and impracticable in comparison) Buck Knife. What a difference! The Mule is sturdy, very sharp, solidly constructed, and the blade is easy to open and close. I would recommend this knife to anyone who wants a quality folding knife that doesn't have to be in your pocket (a belt case is included). I'm not a hunter but I've used this knife for all kinds of stuff around my house and yard and it has more than met my expectations. Highly recommended.

Outstanding heavy-duty folder
Perfect choice for anyone looking for a reliable, heavy-duty folder that can handle any task expected from a pocket knife and then some. The blade is fairly large and has a very practical shape. Shaving sharp out of the box, good edge holding, can be sharpened to a razor edge easily. I've often used it as a paring knife in the kitchen and it's equally at home outdoors for anything from whittling to setting up a survival shelter. The grip is highly ergonomic and fits the hand well, much better than most modern EDC folders with ultra light, skinny grip scales. It won't slip even if wet or greasy thanks to the rubber inserts. Can be opened one-handed easily with either hand. While pretty big for a folding knife it's still not overly huge and can be carried in a pocket conveniently, especially if you're wearing BDU's or cargo pants. Lock up is absolutely solid and can be adjusted with Torx screws if necessary. For those who need a practical, sturdy knife...

Great American Knife...Made in Taiwan
I carry this knife every day and wouldn't be without it. It is truly a heavy duty item and so sharp it has to be handled very carefully. The only criticism would be the word "TAIWAN" printed in bold letters on the side of the blade. For some reason, I expected K-Bar to be made in the U.S.

DVD contains 9 minutes more footage than the VHS version
I compared both VHS and DVD and they trimmed out tons of scenes here and there for a total of 9 minutes cut on the VHS version. why did they trim those before? Some of the cut scenes include Sara and Hogan traveling, and some are scenes like in the saloon, and in the hideout with the rebels. Also the DVD picture shows much more from side to side and a lot more on the top and bottom compared to the VHS version fans of the movie have had to live with for years. The quality of the picture is fantastic. This is probably the best improvement over VHS I have seen. They also changed the cover from the old VHS version! It still looks great on the DVD, but the old VHS version showed the Mexicans and French fighting! why did they remove that? This is an action type western movie. If you see the cover it almost looks like it might be a romance movie. They should not have changed the cover. There are a few times when Hogan shoves Sister Sara over a wall or into a tree by placing...

A masterpiece!
Hogan (Clint Eastwood) an ex Civil War soldier is a drifter looking for not so easy but definitely shifty ways of making money. He runs into 3 men molesting a naked woman (Shirley MacLaine) in the desert. Defending the woman, he kills the men and discovers the woman he saved is a nun. Together they embark on a mission to help the Mexican rebel army blast a French fort on the 4th of July. Eastwood is in it for the money; Maclaine for humanistic reasons. The guns are blazing, the French are all over the place, and Eastwood and Maclaine are falling in love. There is only one problem: MacLaine is a nun... or isn't she?Outstanding western with great action, witty repartee, wonderful characters, surprises and what not. If you haven't seen this classic by now, boy have you been missing...

We make a good team
In an inspired bit of casting, sexy and effervescent Shirley MacLaine is cast against tough and laconic Clint Eastwood. The result is a frothy little frontier romance that is two-thirds wonderful. The last third, when TWO MULES FOR SISTER SARA returns to its action roots and involves us in a long rebels versus the establishment battle scene, is more an intrusion than a culmination. I would have liked twenty more minutes of Eastwood-MacLaine and hang the rotten French colonial garrison. This is a funny and straight-forward love story that bears comparison to the best teamings in action history; TWO MULES doesn't embarrass itself when set against any of the John Wayne-Maureen O'Hara films, which is about as high praise as I'm capable of. My favorite element - throughout the movie MacLaine rides the smallest mount I've ever seen. The burro she's saddled to is shorter than many domestic dogs, although both rider and mount maintain as much dignity as the...

A joy to read!
The Marius' Mules series has been a joy to read. S.J.A. Turney has lost none of the ingredients in this third book that have made his previous books so successful. The three books have offered a fantastic historical journey coupled with a style of writing that has allowed the reader to establish strong emotional attachments with specific characters and their individual personas. I came to feel their joy, their pain, their rage and much more. By the end of the third book I felt like I knew each one personally. Our journey began with book one (2009) set in 58BC with the tenth legion camped in northern Italy awaiting Julius Caesar to outline his plans for the invasion of Gaul. We experience the camaraderie of such characters as Fronto, Priscus, Balbus and many more as their relationships are cemented through life's trials and especially through `blood and guts' battles with the various Gallic tribes.Book two (2010) takes place in 57BC as Caesar readies...

Entertaining
A lot of the history books I have read on this period are based on Caesar. It is usually very long lists of the numbers fighting, where their tribes are from etc. This creation of the author, for me, has brought the history to life. Following the adventures of Fronto as Legate of the 10th legion, like the sharpe and Cato series, allows you to keep to the broad historical truth while allowing the author to entertain.Instead of lists you are swept up with the charachters into the battles. Would rate this author as up with the likes of Simon Scarrow and Bernard Cornwell for his creation of a very likeable series. This series for me has been very good value for money and kept me busy reading.

Product Description

It is 56bc. As Fronto and his friends winter in Rome and Caesar in Illyricum, trouble is brewing in the north. The tribes of Armorica, driven to desperate action by the harsh rule of Crassus, raise their standards in defiance of the Roman eagle, causing a chain reaction that threatens everything the legions of Caesar have achieved. Can the general's commanders stamp out the fires of rebellion before the whole of Gaul is ablaze? Meanwhile, in Rome, the conspiracies against Caesar take an unexpected turn, plunging Fronto and his friends into a world of crime, violence and intrigue that threaten everything the legate cares about. The city is in turmoil and the republic is teetering on the brink of disaster. In a year that takes the legions and their commanders to the heaving Atlantic Ocean, the treacherous valleys of the Pyrenees, and the seething underbelly of the greatest city in the world, everything is about to change for Marcus Falerius Fronto. Another solid read
This is obviously from the name of the title the third book by SJA Turney about Caesar's invasion of Gaul. At this point in the story you already know if you enjoy Turney's writing or not, so I won't say anything on that. Though you should not start with this book, it does not stand on its own, Turney just throws you right into the story. This can be a good or a bad thing depending on who you are. It has been close to a year since I read Book 2 so the begging of the book took me awhile to get everything straight. The first third or so of the story was a little slow, but as soon as Fronto gets back to the legion the action picks right up. While not my favorite book of all times if you enjoy Turney's other books then for $2.99 you can't go wrong.

Meticulous
Marius's Mules presents a meticulous attention to detail and to historic fact . But the line between fact and fiction is seamless and invisible thus offering an entertaining and unpatronising read. The characters, led by the worn persona of Fronto are supremely 'everyman' and therefore utterly believable.Whilst one has historically been informed that Roman conquests were the result of the foresight and brilliance of men like Caesar, this book flies in the face of that concept, revealing a far more likely idea . . . that perhaps the ingenuity was in Caesar's weary officers, just as the muscle and effort came from the legions of men who fought for Rome.Turney gives us idiosyncratic men of wry humour, with a healthy disrespect for authority and an even healthier belief that 'what doesn't kill one makes one stronger.'The battle scenes are delivered with pace, movement and colour, full of cinematographic grandeur and laden with dust, guts and bravery. Good Roman Fiction
Marius' Mules is a good historical fiction novel that follows Caesar's conquest of Gaul, starting in 58BC. I have a little trouble with the name of the book, as it suggests the time of Marius and Sulla when something alluding to Caesar would feel more appropriate. The title is a reference to a legionary reform of Gaius Marius just before Caesar's birth, where the legionaries consolidated their personal kit so it could be carried individually on the march. Since some of the legions under Caesar's command in Gaul were born in the time of Marius, Caesar's uncle, it is a theme of the book. The characters are believable and the historical content is quite good with lots of attention to detail that does not come at the expense of a good story. Turney does a good job of depicting the campaigns primarily through the eyes of senior legates and centurions, which of course brings people like Caesar and Labienus into the scenes without having them dominate the landscape. Labienus...

An impressive first effort!
The Mule Tamer takes the reader to a nearly forgotten time with impressive details of the era and compelling, multidimensional characters. Arvel Walsh is not your typical western hero/protagonist, his relationship with the lovely Mexican (simply known as Chica) is fascinating from start to finish.

Excellent fast-paced read
I do not typically read "westerns" but I truly enjoyed this novel. The writing quickly pulls you into the lives of interesting characters with unique and interwoven fears, shortcomings, guts, and gifts. The imagery of both the characters and the land provide a historically aware, fast-paced, and entertaining escape to a wild time in the American west. The brutality, compassion, humor, and everyday struggles of Horst's characters are very real and quite memorable. I finished the book wanting to know what happens to these people next - I hope I won't have to wait too long to find out!

Not your typical western!
This book really stepped outside the box of a typical "western." The Characters are perfectly developed, the plot is intricately thought through and weaves the complexities of both the era, characters and story twists and turns into a very enjoyable read. The plot keeps you wondering what is going to happen next and the characters don't disapoint. You almost feel like you are riding along with them thanks to the brilliantly illustrated setting. Great read!
