This is a great book for the VW Bus Lover.
This book has some great pictures of all types and styles of the VW Bus. It also explains the details of the different models and that includes the small stuff. If you are interested in restoring a bus or just love em. This book has someting for you.

The most beautiful VW bus photos ever!
One word: PHOTOS! Every page in the book is loaded with beautiful color plates that will amaze you. The photos are perfect. Most photos were taken against the beautiful English country where most buses are still in use. The documentation on model changes is quite extensive as well. I particularly like the author's attention to the world wide feelings the buses conjured during the 60's and 70's. The author also pays attention to all suspension, interior and body style changes the bus has had through the years. It's a great book and a must have for any bus enthusiast.

Awesome
This model is in progress and a good deal of fun to build. I'm very impressed with the detail in it's componants and I've taught myself a few things along the way. Paint as much and as many pieces as you can before snapping them out of the form. I'm going to buy some alligator clips to mount on small wooden dowels - then stick the dowels into styrofoam for holding pieces that need additional touch up afterward. Gluing sub-assemblies together, before painting the sum of their parts, would have saved me some time and made gluing easier (You don't want to apply glue to painted surfaces). Oh and go easy on that glue, use just enough to "wet" mating surfaces, I use pointed tootpicks with good results. On the larger body pieces I plan to buy spray paint because it'll look much better than paint that's been brushed on. All in all, I feel that this purchase was a bargain for the entertainment value alone. Plus, if you take your time, you'll wind up with a really nice bookshelf item to...

Very informative
Here in the US we see mostly Westfalia's and Riviera's, with some Sportsmobiles and Sundials etc....This book is amazing in the number of conversions covered. The european models going way way back to the 50's! You certainly learn about more conversion companies and see many different configurations.Very, very cool book.I highly recommend it if you are interested in these great busses.

Perfect for someone restoring a bus
I bought this as a present for my boyfriend, who is planning on buying and restoring a early 1970s VW bus soon. He absolutely loved this book. It has a wealth of information - and lots of great photos - about the interior of every type of bus made. This type of information is difficult to find (most information available is about the engine, body, etc). Great picture history on VW van/bus/transporter conversions to camper.
I recently reviewed a book called "How to convert your VW Bus or Van to Camper". That book is garbage and completely devoid of information to help you actually do this.THIS book however is a wealth of knowledge. It shows many different layouts from back in the very beginning to the end, all different sorts of conversions too. In my opinion it's more information for someone who would be trying to figure out how to convert their own van than the one supposedly written for that.This is basically a picture history with good documentation on the campers available in Europe and the USA which were based on the Volkswagen Bus/Transporter. The author is very knowledgeable, the pictures are all documented with good information, and it's a beautiful book. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the subject. I bought this probably a year ago or so and still pick it up and thumb through it from time to time, it's a nice book to have around.

Amazing!!
My husband ordered this for me for a birthday present, I absolutly love vw bus' and this one is super cute and durable.As I accidently dropped it; it didnt break not even scratch.I wish it came in other colors though, but the red it came in is a good vibrant color.I reccomend this windchime cutie to any hippie and vw lover!

A good read.
The same author has written the excellent VW Camper- The inside story. That book deals with specifications on the different campers, while this book are more about humans, culture and adventures.This is a nice book, well written and good layout. I somehow think that it could have been more on travelling tips specific for the VW camper.Nevertheless, a good buy!

Interesting but could have been better
This is a good general history of the VW Campervan. Released in the UK as Campervan Crazy (which is a much more accurate title). I would have hoped to see more on VW expiditions and actual camping but alas much of the book (over 70%) was focused on the hippie van culture. And the book is from a decidedly British point of view. On the up side there are some great pictures and anyone who grew up camping in a combi will bring back fond memories reading this book. For some reason Amazon is not shipping this book at this time but it is availible from the publisher.

BUY Traveling With the VW Bus and Camper

Though there are many other types of vintage VW restorers, I just would like to identify a handful that I have met during my journey through VW restoration. Bob was surprised when I told him that I saw the bus and decided not buy it. He started saying that I did a dumb decision and should have bought it. Bob berated me for my ‘bad’ decision and missed on a project that would have earned no less than... Some would buy them and do an expensive full restoration and resell them to the high end VW buyers. The hated VW buyers are the ones that buy them and chop them for parts. He then asked me if I gotten in contact with the owner of the 1968 bus because the owner did not respond to the repeated emails that he sent. There are those who would buy VWs with the intention of doing the bear minimum of repair just to get the car running and flip them for a quick profit. He started saying that my current project is trash compared to the 1968 bus that I ‘should’ have bought. Waiting to bag the right VW project at an affordable price takes a lot of luck. I am still searching for my 15-window, 21-window, 23-Window, single cab pre-1960 and barn door buses. I believe that all vintage VW restorers have different budgets, styles and goals. The search for that illusive and hidden VW gem that are still out there waiting to be discovered has become an obsession to many.
