Fantastic Read
When long-time best friends, Sara and Jack finally find their way into each others arms, some `good vibrations' shake their worlds...and their hearts.Sara has wanted the hot, sexy, masculine man for years but until recently hadn't wanted to jeopardize their valued friendship. She buys a bag of sex toys at a special party given by her girlfriends in hopes of coaxing Jack into a closer relationship. When Jack learns that Sara has just bought a `suitcase' full of sex toys, he confronts her with his own raging desire for her. It's not long before Sara realizes she's deeply in love. Then to her joy, she finds that Jack has loved her as long as he's known her but has patiently waited for her to get over her broken marriage before revealing his feelings.I found myself believing this story and the characters as though they were real people. The tale of best friends who find they share a deeper love is a popular and realistic fantasy, here made fresh and fun...

Let me count the ways this author does it for me
GOOD VIBRATIONS is the tale of a woman who was divorced for all the wrong reasons, but decides to do right for herself and undo all the wrongs done her. THIS is a story you don't want to miss. With a hero to match her because of his warm heart and endearing personality, GOOD VIBES lives up to its name. It is also Classic Austin. Charming, lusty and REAL.A treat, just like the others in this series.Bravo, Nicole Austin!

Such a Cute Couple
Jack and Sara are so cute and I'm so glad to see them get together. Sara could be so bold and yet venerable regarding her ex. It's great to see characters realize what they want and go get it.

A Compelling Corporate Story of What It Takes to Achieve True Diversity
While it's trendy and easy to be for diversity, staying in it for the long haul in a disciplined, doggedly determined way is much less glamorous and exceptionally difficult. McDonald's is one of those companies that took the long view to create sustainable diversity at every level of their business: from their customers to their menus, from their franchisees to their employees, from entry level ranks to management to executive leadership. The people behind the Golden Arches have been responsible for creating hundreds of thousands of entry level jobs for people for every walk of life just getting started in their work lives and thousands of business ownerships including for urban entrepreneurs with very few other lucrative business start-up possibilities within their reach. Not only can the people at McDonald's speak authoritatively about their diversity strategies and their breakthrough results, but author Pat Harris, McDonald's gracious and dedicated diversity...

Product Description

An inside account of how McDonald's turns diversity into success

Everyone knows McDonald's, one of the most recognizable brand names in the world. But few know the extent to which McDonald's continued and ongoing success is due to the company's internal philosophy of inclusion and diversity. One of the biggest employers in the world, McDonald's staff is one of the world's most racially, culturally, and religiously diverse.

In None of Us Is As Good As All of Us, McDonald's Global Chief Diversity Officer, Patricia Sowell Harris, offers the first inside look at the company's philosophy of inclusion and diversity through interviews with more than 60 key employees and leaders. These accounts, of franchisees, suppliers, and employees, reveal how McDonald's embraces all races, creeds, and cultures to create unity and business achievement.

• Written by Patricia Sowell Harris, McDonald's global chief diversity officer
• Serves as a template for any business that wants to embrace wider diversity and use it to prosper
• With a Foreword by Jim Skinner, McDonald's CEO since 2004
• A first look at the inner workings of McDonald's impressive diversity and inclusion philosophy

For any business leader who wants to embrace diversity and encourage team unity, None of Us Is As Good As All of Us offers inspiration and guidance.

Inside look at how McDonald's handles diversity
McDonald's statistics tell the story of its impressive business achievements. The company serves 58 million customers daily at 32,000 restaurants in 118 nations. It employs 1.6 million people, and had 2008 sales of more than $70 billion. That's a lot of "secret sauce." Through its vaunted Hamburger University, which opened in 1956 in an Illinois restaurant basement, McDonald's teaches store managers, owners and operators how to do things "the McDonald's way." Author Patricia Sowell Harris is in charge of diversity at McDonald's. She must be doing a good job, given that Fortune magazine cited McDonalds as the number one company for diversity two years in a row. Though Harris's book is, by nature, promotional, she does a good job of explaining how diversity works at McDonald's, why a diverse workforce is important and why it makes good business sense. getAbstract recommends her lessons on equitable employment to CEOs, as well as to human resource personnel, and training and hiring...

Excellent, But Not For Everyone
I ended up really, really liking this book. It took most of the way through it before I really figured out where the author was going, but it was worth the wait. This quite an unusual book and if you read the popular books on the psychology of happiness or on neuroscience you will find it very different. While that was a positive for me I suspect many people will feel unsatisfied by this book. It doesn't contain practical actionable advice on finding happiness, it only points the reader in a direction that might be pursued. It's not really for the general reader and while it is fairly short is is not an easy read. It's not difficult but it's not easy either. If you want something intellectual and different then I recommend you get this book. If you want light and breezy happiness advice, I suggest you go elsewhere.

Profound
I read Edelman's book in just two sittings. The lessons are profound and I couldn't put the book down. Some of the material in this book is fairly complicated and you may need to go slowly in parts. Personally I'm doing a second reading of this book, and am finding new ideas all the time. This book certainly is not a self-help book. It is written by a professional academic and is rigorous in it's logic. Honestly, I can't say that I fully understand this book yet-- perhaps a third reading will be required!-- but I am learning a lot from struggling with it.If you're interested in cognitive science or computational psychology I'd recommend this book for you. If you're more interested in popular psychology then this may not be the right book for you. Some of the arguments are fairly technical, and if you don't want to fight for a good understanding of the material then you may feel lost.Good luck!

Product Description

When fishing for happiness, catch and release. Remember these seven words—they are the keys to being happy. So says Shimon Edelman, an expert on psychology and the mind.

In The Happiness of Pursuit, Edelman offers a fundamental understanding of pleasure and joy via the brain. Using the concept of the mind as a computing device, he unpacks how the human brain is highly active, involved in patterned networks, and constantly learning from experience. As our brains predict the future through pursuit of experience, we are rewarded both in real time and in the long run. Essentially, as Edelman discovers, it’s the journey, rather than the destination, that matters.

The idea that cognition is computation—the brain is a machine—is nothing new of course. But, as Edelman argues, the mind is actually a bundle of ongoing computations, essentially, the brain being one of many possible substrates that can support them. Edelman makes the case for these claims by constructing a conceptual toolbox that offers readers a glimpse of the computations underlying the mind’s faculties: perception, motivation and emotions, action, memory, thinking, social cognition, learning and language. It is this collection of tools that enables us to discover how and why happiness happens.

An informative, accessible, and witty tour of the mind, The Happiness of Pursuit offers insights to a thorough understanding of what minds are, how they relate to each other and to the world, and how we can make the best of it all.

Enjoyable Read
I enjoyed this book more for what it was not. I purchased it thinking it would be the "not" as I read most everything I can find on it. The "not" I am referring to is the neuroscience pop culture books. I enjoy studies with amazing results, the down and dirty of chemical neuron communication and binding, and wild (because they call into doubt what we know of life and reality)theories and discoveries. This book pretty much assumes you know these things and proceeds to build some framework/extrapolation of living life. If you do not know that your reality is really just a "virtual reality" or that YOU are really a collection of many mental processes coming together, many that never even hit the conscious level, then the book will give you a short proof to convince you, but you will be longing for much more proof to believe what is being communicated.Amazingly the criticisms I had, and the basis for only 4 stars, are exactly chronicled by the author at the end of his book in...

Fast-charges the HTC Incredible
I use my Droid Incredible as my primary GPS car navigator, so I needed a car charger that could keep up with the power needs of Google Maps with the GPS running. The Belkin USB adapter says it puts out 1A, but my Incredible showed that is was only getting a trickle-charge (500 mA) from it, because the Belkin charger does not implement the latest USB charger standard (short the data pins for a fast charge). This charger shows up as an AC charger on my Incredible, and it is able to charge my phone even while I am using it for GPS navigation. Recommended for any newer phone that uses a micro-USB connector.

Genuine Motorola charger in retail packaging. 4.75-5.25V 950mA output, works w/ most micro-USB phones like Incredible, etc.
There are so many sketchy sellers selling phone chargers out there, that it can be a bit scary. The problem is that if the charger is poorly made, the output of the charger can be out of spec and can, in some cases, fry the phone you connect to it.For that reason, when it comes to phone chargers, you should stick to name brands. (They are all made in China, but the name brand ones are usually subject to stricter QA).When I found this charger on Amazon, SOLD BY AMAZON, I jumped on it. It's a MICRO USB car charger, made for Motorola and sold under the Motorola name, in retail packaging. The rated output is 4.75-5.25V and 950mA.This charger should work fine with most any phone that uses the MICRO USB connector. The key number to pay attention to is the second one, the rated amperage. This is the MAXIMUM amount of current that the phone can request from the charger. A typical USB port on a PC provides as little as 100mA, and few provide more than 500mA...

**UPDATED**Would not consider anything other than Square Trade
****Update 04/11/12****As my initial review was written based on my experience with SquareTrade on items other than the Kindle Fire (which had not even been released at that time) I wanted to update with info relating specifically to the Fire warranty service.I have had to contact Square Trade because of an issue with one of my Kindle Fires and I mistakenly called the usual general warranty claim telephone number on the SquareTrade website. SquareTrade has a designated Kindle Fire specific warranty claim number which is listed on the warranty confirmation email customers receive after purchasing the Fire's warranty. It is 1-866-374-9939. Once I was connected to the right person (this was all in one phone call in less than five minutes) my issue was handled quickly, with no fuss, I did not have to provide any additional information and I had a replacement Kindle in less than 48 hours at no charge to me.Another reviewer had mentioned concern at the...

    Exactly as advertised!!
Square trade warranties are exactly as advertised. After almost two years of abuse on my 2nd Generation Kindle, I finally broke the screen. I am a Soldier and my Kindle goes with me everywhere, Iraq and Afghanistan included. I called Amazon (from Afghanistan!) and was directed to the Kindle warranty department. In less than 5 minutes, I had a new kindle on the way to my house, and a shipping label to return my broken one at no charge. I was very impressed at how easy it was. I just purchased the Kindle fire and didn't hesitate for a second to get the additional warrantly offered by Square Trade. Keep up the great work.

Accurately Described (Mostly), But Beware Customer Service
As with all warranties, make sure that you read the fine print as soon as you get it. If you don't think it's worth it, cancel it. You can cancel this warranty in the first 90 days for a full refund (provided you haven't made any claims). You can also cancel any time after that and get a pro-rated refund based on how much time is left in your coverage period. This seems generous, so I'll give them kudos. It will cover your "oopsies"... but only the main ones: like if you drop it, step on it, or drop it in the pool/bathtub/sink/toilet. So that last one probably isn't common (I hope), but you get where I'm going with the dropping-in-water concept.Since you can't see much else besides what they write on this page, I'll highlight a few points that you might want to consider. If you read the fine print, you'll see that you're up a creek without a paddle if it's fried due to things like rain (or anything else that could be classified as "exposure to weather...

No matter what your color palette, budget or location, these local Baltimore home goods stores will be sure to have something that will be perfect for you and your home. Arhaus, in Harbor East, is a great place to shop for furniture and home goods, as well as bedding. I personally love the Ingrid bedding, a custom designed bedding set made of solid natural linens with a blue subtly nautical feel. Nouveau at Belvedere Square both sells home goods and provides interior design services. At the shop, you’ll get a glimpse of their unique style and be able to buy the elements to mix into your own home. Maybe a hotel has used a color combination you’ve never thought of or a blog features patterns in ways you wouldn’t think to use them. Linens and towels become so much a part of our lives that not only do they reinforce the aesthetic we use to define ourselves, they tell others a lot about us as well. She is a Baltimore web designer, a maker of watercolor stationery and a design blogger. At my home, it seems like we can never have enough kitchen towels. We breeze through them quickly when cooking and baking so we try to keep a good many on hand. Know you’re ready for a linen and towel makeover but not sure where to start.

For the 12 months of 2011, Darren bought Canadian goods, ate Canadian food, and consumed only Canadian media. There are Canadian retailers who try to screw over consumers who want Canadian-made goods. I've purchased things from two companies who advertise "Made in Canada" goods only to find "Made in China" on the inner tags of the items. Buying Canadian is possible if one is committed to searching for local products, and able to pass up inexpensive and trendy products created elsewhere. If you could show me a cheap, trendy Canadian alternative to the clothes I buy at stores like H&M and the Gap, I would consider making the purchase. Unlike me, some people would actually prefer to buy Canadian products. I would like to buy Canadian but would be broke in no time flat. There are tools available to help people find Canadian goods. After being asked to write about buying Canadian, I thought that I would take a look around my apartment at some of my belongings. Not only does this website ship Canadian products across the country, but it also ships our grocery, health, and beauty products worldwide. Will you like the Canadian alternative as much as the American or Asian-made one. If I can’t even find stylish Canadian-made clothing at a retailer with a beaver on it, why bother. Find Canadian-made apparel, tools, home décor and more. I mean, even Roots clothing – which, to me, screams Canadian – is often made overseas. Most of the time, I purchase cheaper alternatives, and cheaper alternatives are frequently shipped from foreign lands. Must be canadian made.
