Not bad for the price you pay.
Used this little portable a few times since I got it. I find it works not to bad for the price paid. I do believe that it to be used as a portable. LIKE IT SAYS. PORTABLE. It should not be used as a mounted unit to a boat. That would eliminate the long cord it comes with. I think it be best used on small lakes or rivers, which I fish on. I find it not a problem to use. It would be nice though if it did keep its memory when it shuts off after 5 minutes. As I like to use feet, not meters.HELPED ME FIND THEM WALLEYE!!!

SONAR X1 Power
Hi Scott. I received my SONAR X1 Power book Friday from Amazon. Very fast shipping. I've had my nose in it since. It's the first of your Power books I've read, and so far I like it very much. It is simple where simple is required, then it reaches out and surprises you with more advanced concepts and content. Very well done. Besides being a SONAR expert you are obviously a talented author. I like your more personal style as well. I find that having SONAR up and running while reading SONAR X1 Power is very good for drilling all those finer details deep into memory. Thanks again,Will

This should be the official manual!
Anybody that owns X1 should own Sonar X1 Power. With all the changes in Sonar with this release, it is not just for the new user - even experienced users could benefit from this book. It explains all the changes in this release and is written in a clear and concise manner. The 1800 page PDF manual that Cakewalk ships with X1 is more of a technical overview. X1 Power walks you through real life scenarios so you can put Sonar to work and actually see how a feature can be applied to your projects.

Great guide for Sonar X1 users
This is the 2nd Sonar Power! book I've purchased, and once again I've found it extremely useful. Even though I've used Sonar for many years, I was a little confused with the new interface in X1. Scott's book helped me navigate the program by explaining the new features in an easy to understand format, and also reminded me of a few I had forgotten. I always keep the book nearby when I'm using Sonar, so if I ever get stuck when creating a project, I can quickly find advice and guidance in it's pages. Highly recommended if you're a Sonar X1 user.

Awesome product
Bought this from amazon about a month ago and it works awesome. I use mine on a kayak so I need to use a portable model. The suction cup is awesome, don't worry about it falling off. I have to slide a knife under it to un-stick it from my boat. The battery it comes with is like a small car battery, and initially turned me off to the product, this being the days of lithium-ion technology and all. I quickly warmed to it, however, as it recharges well and lasts forever. I went on a four hour fishing trip, left it uncharged, then took it out again for another four hours without coming close to losing power. The dual beam was a big selling point for me when I bought it, but honestly it seldom spots any more fish (fish picked up by the second beam are displayed as white rather than black). I wouldn't let this feature keep you from buying a single beam product. When I bought it, it sold for 111.00 from a company called Ritz Interactive, which no longer...

Fits my needs perfectly
I've had the opportunity to use both the wired transducer attached via suction cup and the wireless remote sonar sensor. First I'd like to make it clear that the RF45 RSS is included. Some of the product information I read seemed to indicate that it was not included, but that was wrong.I bought this because several times a year I go to a local lake and rent a boat to fish for trout and Kokanee salmon, the rest of the time I spend fishing I fish from the shore. During a recent trip when I rented a boat I used the wired transducer. The boat I was on was a large pontoon boat and the only place to attach the transducer was to the back of one of the pontoons. The surface was rounded and had algae all over it. I got the transducer on but after a short time with the 50hp motor at full power the transducer fell off. That was okay, I wasn't expecting it to hold on at higher speeds, especially with the poor surface it was attached to. Once we got in the area where we wanted to fish...

Works Fantastic
The Humminbird PiranhaMax 230 Portable Fish Finder works and operates perfectly. The state I fish in gets very cold and snows most of the time. The Humminbird PiranhaMax worked thru it all. The alarm is loud enough for my bad hearing. It is very compact so that helps with taking everything a person needs for fishing, I would advise anyone ice fishing to buy this product as I have used it in adverse conditions and it never failed me.

PiranhaMAX 170
An affordable dual-beam Fishfinder with four-inch grayscale display.

Simplicity and Performance

Four-Inch Grayscale Display

The PiranhaMAX 170 features a four-inch, eight-level grayscale display with 260 x 160 pixel resolution, so you get a good view of the action--even in direct sunlight.

PiranhaMAX 170 Screen
Automatically determines depth and makes adjustments to keep the bottom and fish visible on the display.
PiranhaMAX 150 Transducer
Easy-install transom-mount transducer.
Simple Fishfinding

The PiranhaMAX extremely easy to use. For most anglers, all you'll ever need to do is power on and fish. The PiranhaMAX automatically determines depth and makes adjustments to keep the bottom and fish visible on the display.

The PiranhaMAX uses sonar technology to send sound waves from the transducer into the water. The returned "echoes" are plotted on the display, creating a very accurate picture of the underwater world, including distance to underwater objects such as the bottom, fish, and structure.

Dual Beam Sonar

The PiranhaMAX 170 uses a 200/83 kHz dual beam sonar system with a wide (60 degree) area of coverage. Dual Beam sonar is optimized to show the greatest bottom definition using a narrow (20 degree) beam yet can still indicate fish found in the wide (60 degree) beam when the Fish ID+ feature is turned on. Dual Beam is ideal for a wide range of conditions--from shallow to very deep water, in both fresh and salt water. Note that boat speed, wave action, bottom hardness, water conditions, and transducer installation can all affect depth capability.

Fish ID+

Fish ID+ uses advanced sonar processing to interpret sonar returns, and displays a Fish Symbol when very selective requirements are met. When a fish is detected, a fish icon and its depth are displayed above the return that has been classified as being a fish. Three different fish icons represent intensity of the sonar return, and provide an indicator of relative fish size.

Fish and Depth Alarms

When Fish ID+ is on, you can set an alarm to sound when the PiranhaMAX detects fish that correspond to your settings. You can also set a depth alarm from 3 to 99 feet--an audible alarm sounds when the depth is equal to or less than the setting.

Great device for learning to fish
Got this as a gift for Christmas when I was shopping with the wife at BassPro here in Orlando. I had been researching these units for a few days after reading about one online. The fact that I could cast out from the shore appealed to me so I chose one of the smartcast models. BassPro had the RF10 on sale and the R15 was the price I had expected the R10 to be so I went with the R15. It includes grey scale and water temp as part of the upgrades from the R10 series.Over the past two weeks I've taken the R15 out to 4-5 lakes around my area to test it out. Provided I do a nice steady retrive a smooth display of the bottom is presented. I have also seen a fair amount of fish on the display using the Fish ID function. From what I have read on various newgroup posts this feature should generaly be turned OFF. Instead one is supposed to learn how to identify fish using "raw" sonar returns. So far I have not seen any "fish arches". I have a feeling I might need to be in...

Little rubber ducky fish finder.
Typical of electronic watches has more features than necessary. By accident and reading the instructions in a canoe it started working in about 5 min. Works great shows fish and structure gives depth and water temp even tells time. Only thing I would change is buttons can get pushed accidently while sleeping or doing everyday chores this throws it into a mode other than time. Usually it goes to fishing mode which according to the instructions runs down the battery at a faster rate as it must act as a radio reciever. If the buttons had been shielded it would be a perfect product. Customer service was great they told me it was water resistant some thing I couldn't find in the instructions. Eventually I plan to use as a bobber/sonar buoy and see the crappie taking the bait how cool is that.

Great little unit for the money, for sure-especially if you have a kayak like me. You won't be disappointed.

Customer Video Review Length:: 5:47 MinsThis product is great, it has done a lot for anyone that needed it. The bass response is excellent and as you should hopefully hear in the video, so does it show out well compared to other internal speakers. Yes it is mono, and yes it makes a weird sound when pumped up to (6 presses for highest volume after turning it on when holding the power button down for a few seconds) the highest setting it can do. The speaker is great however, it has good volume, except distortion is present but it is because I had a damaged unit. This is one of many videos I will present with sound quality, and then will compare to the Logitech z305.
