magnificent book about man's best friends
This book is magnificient. It is large and heavy, and would dominate any good book collection, much as would any of it's canine subjects dominate any habitat! I gifted this to a family member who loves dogs - and it was perfect! Each picture captures the personality of that dog. There are so many marvelous dogs and each one sends out their own message. I love the fact that this book is really all pictures - very little text. That let's each dog shine through! No words needed,and isn't that how dogs communicate in life?! This book is the first book to come close to capturing the true nature of the dog and really documents exactly why dogs have become best friends with humanity.

Good book continued
Rover 2 Woof Edition follows on the layout started in the first book. Andrew really does an amazing job photographing the dogs. You have to realize he had never photographed a dog until shortly before the first book. I do wish he had some bit of story about the dog along with the picture. Overall it is a great book and would make a great gift for anyone at Christmas time for a dog lover.For the sake of full disclosure my dog is in the book but I did have to buy my own copy too!He is the last dog in the book!

Not quite what I expected, but good!
I had trouble finding this game locally, and really wanted it for my 4 year old. We have recently moved from one state to another, and while she was not old enough for kindergarten where we were, she was where we moved to. As a result she is half a year behind the other kids and I thought this would be a great way to catch her up. It really needs to have all the letters and more numbers, maybe they could consider expansion packs or something for it? Also, it sometimes tells my children they have the wrong bone, when in fact they don't. Very confusing for my 3 year old when she knows that it is a triangle and the dog is telling her she is wrong!

Learning is a Blast!
Red Rover is a brightly colored plastic dog-shaped game unit that interacts with players. To begin play, 12 bones are spread face-down throughout the playing area. A player then touches Red Rover's rubber nose to select which game to play. Depending on age and skill level, players may choose between the Puppy Color Game involving only colors, or they may choose the more advanced Big Dog Challenge, involving colors, shapes, numbers, and letters.

Red Rover's friendly voice informs players which bone to search for via a large speaker integrated into the back of his head. Players can check to see whether or not they've grabbed the correct bone by placing it inside of Red Rover's mouth. If they're correct, Red Rover announces a new bone to look for. If the player chooses the wrong bone, Red Rover encourages them to return it to the play area and continue looking for the correct bone. By using positive encouragement, Red Rover makes learning fun and helps to keep children encouraged, even when they've gotten the answer wrong.

Let's Play!
The Red Rover game unit is a friendly looking red plastic dog that features a speaker integrated into the back of his head. This speaker is loud, making it audible over a large area so that players across the room can keep track of the game play action. An integrated backpack-shaped storage compartment neatly holds all 12 bones, and rubber pads on Red Rover's base keep him from slipping or tipping over.

With no assembly required beyond the insertion of three AA batteries, Red Rover is designed for durability. His hard plastic body protects the interactive computer that controls game play. Although the design is simple, it does take some practice to get the placement of a bone in Red Rover's mouth just right so that he responds appropriately. This can be done by wiggling the bone around until he audibly acknowledges whether or not the correct bone has been chosen.

A little disappointed!
This game would be PERFECT were it not for ONE thing. This game does NOT have all the letters in the alphabet! It only has like 9 of the letters. Otherwise it is an awesome way to teach kids the alphabet AND teach them how to recognize the letters! I was really disappointed! My 5 year old LOVES this game-and I have to say that it is a wonderful way to teach your preschooler his colors and shapes...but as far as learning the alphabet, this game falls short.

A Good Game for 2 - 3 year olds
My 2 year old niece enjoys this game very much and it is very fun and helpful for her in learning her colors and numbers. We found putting the bones into the dog's mouth was hard for her to do. It gets a little jammed up and has to be put in just right or she can't get the bones in by herself. My 3 year old daughter knows her colors, letters and numbers well, but still enjoys playing the game.

Buy the Book! Help the Dogs!
If you are a dog lover, you will love this book. It is beautifully done and 10% of proceeds benefit animal shelters and pet rescues. There are wonderful portraits of old dogs, puppies, little dogs and big dogs all standing out from a white back drop. The book certainly makes a case for adopting shelter dogs and makes a wonderful gift.

Rover Rocks --and so does the customer support
We love this toy. My daughter has spent many hours assembling the various rover variations covered in the accompanying manual. I highly recommend it for the educational component alone; it is also fun. But the real reason I am writing this review is because one of our components just stopped working. I called the company. "Jerry" took my information and said he'd send it right out. When I pointed out that I hadn't paid for the replacement part yet, he responded, "We support our products." This despite the fact that we've had this rover for many months! I mean, a free replacement part... Actually supporting the product... I about fell over...

Electronics 101
We bought this for our 6 year old grandson. He has another smaller set and absolutely loves it. By following picture instruction he can quickly assemble electronic circuitry that actually performs a task. It encourages him to experiment and gives him a sense of accomplishiment. It's like an electronic erector set that was so popular when I was a kid. Very good desigh and sturdily built, even the case is compartmentalized for neat storeage.

Beware of your household surfaces!
In general, the snap kits are fantastic. My kids LOVE these, and had a fun time putting the rover together. For the most part, I'm a big fan of these kits (I own several)The rover? Well... it isn't all skittles-and-beer. Read on.The blue color from the tires on the SNAP rover can bleed into painted surfaces, and quickly too. Even leaving the rover on my kitchen table overnight (a white, pottery barn table) left blue tire-prints in the tabletop finish. It's not merely ON the paint, the color actually bled INTO the painted surface. Not even bleach and a scrubbing sponge have been able to remove the marks. I even tried a fine-grained sanding sponge at the risk of further damaging the finish, but quickly stopped, as that didn't seem to be working either. The SNAP rover's blue tires left similar marks on a white pottery barn craft table that my kids use in their play area.I'd normally give this kit five stars... but it definitely loses a couple...

Create a Rover with Working Electronic Circuits

Excellent Useful Portable Compact Unit
This unit is convenient, well designed and handy. It is lighter, smaller and in some ways more capable than its more expensive Axis brother and the FR series units. More advanced battery (Li-Poly). Greater charge in less crank time. Fully chargeable using a USB cord attached to an AC adapter. When fully charged, the radio can run for hours. Can charge cellphones when you are NOT cranking unlike other units. Analogue tuning allows use both in the United States and overseas. Digital units do not have that capability.

The device charges my HTC Evo phone via USB. I think it is one of the only hand crank flashlights on the market that can charge smartphones. I assume it would charge the iPhone 4 as well. Out of the box I plugged it into my phone with an extended battery it went from 50% to 60% charge before the battery on the flashlight was completely dead. It could be useful to charge your phone to get you by in a pinch however if your main goal is to have a self powered way to charge your smartphone without connecting to the grid you may want to reconsider. A cheaper external battery pack that can fully charge your phone may be a better option even if you have to recharge the battery pack via AC or DC power.Around 30 seconds of hand cranking gave me over 30 minutes of LED lighting. That was pretty impressive. The flashlight is pretty bright and covers a wide area. The beam is fairly focused as well. However because this unit is quite large it would be pretty hard to use as your everyday...

Great except for one small detail...
Awesome little bit of kit.... Heavy made, uses a li-po battery. Crank is like something off an M1 Abrams main battle tank. Am reception is ok, FM reception is very good, wx reception is pretty good. Charges iPhone 4 no problem. Not crazy about the goofy ring to change bands/modes. And for such a heavy duty unit, it has a tiny fragile little telescopic whip.One issue... All the text on the unit ("Volume" "Tuning" "AM FM WB1 etc" "Eton" "Rover") rubbed right off! I was holding it with one hand and cranking with the other and noticed one of the words was smudged... not thirty seconds later I had completely rubbed off EVERY bit of text on the unit as if it were never there. I know some people have some kind of harsh sweat that does this sort of thing but I have never had anything do this before. I don't really mind, I know what the controls do and I actually think it looks better this way but it all just rubbed right off!! Like it was written with dry erase marker!! I know...
