Outrageous!
I have router bits for repetitive and routine work, typically costing $50 to $100 each. Yukon Tools will not replace them. For half the price of a cheaper bit, this kit includes nearly every small bit you may need for that unusual or small job. They are true, cut well for a while, and have not broken on me during occasional use. At a dollar each, these router bits fill every possible expectation and then some. If you want to run molding for your whole house, expect durability for 50 mortises, or build a dozen kitchen cabinets, buy the right tool, but these might be the best bang for the buck in the tool market today. In my opinion, Yukon Tools supplies an outrageously excellent deal.

Best Choice
I have used the Colt in my furniture business and found it to be of the best quaility. Problems I have read about in some of the reveiws were found to be non-existent. They arise from operator error in use. Example, the chuck and bit are indeed 90 degrees to the base when mounted, however, if you do not twist the motor into the lock position after setting the height and lock it, it will be off by approx. 1 degree. As with many tools out today, the manufactors have a reason for suppling instructions for use. Small procedures left out in operation which result in poor results are often blamed on the tool. Like the old saying goes, " If you make it idiot proof, they just make a better idiot." Buy this tool and you can not go wrong when it is used for what it was intended.

Wonderful Tool - Must Buy
I have been using my new Colt router for a month now and it is a wonderful addition to my shop. I have a large bench mounted router, but this tool is now being used more often than the more powerful cousin. It is so easy to route edges, especailly for rounding over or using the flush cut router bit. Put the box or other item you want to rout on a pad made for holding the work and just cut away. The Colt is very easy to control.Making hinge morteses is a snap because the router doesn't grab or try to move off track. You can use the edge guide to help you make the mortese straight. All of the cutting so far has been in red oak and oak vineer plywood. It performs well in both. The bits are easy to change, and the depth is easy to set. A well thought out tool and well worth the price. I use it all the time in my shop now. I wouldn't be without it.AD2

Product Description

The Bosch PR20EVSK Colt Variable Speed Router with Edge Guide is a versatile tool that's ideal for performing custom carpentry, trimming laminate flooring or deck planks, mortising hinges, dovetailing, and a host of other at-home and professional jobs. This router packs big power in a small, compact package for extended comfort and maximum accuracy.

The PR20EVSK Colt Variable Speed Router with Edge Guide offers:
  • Highest horsepower rating in its class.
  • Variable speed of 16,000 to 35,000 RPM
  • Constant-Response Circuitry to maintain speed under load.

Includes router, guide, case, base, collets, and shaft wrenches. View larger.

Rubber over-molded grip allows for stable, one-handed operation. View larger.
Powerful Motor, Variable Speed, and Depth Adjustment for Precise Results
The PR20EVSK owes its robust performance to a 1.0-horsepower (the highest rating for small routers), 5.6-amp motor that spins at a variable speed of 16,000 to 35,000 RPM and has a soft-start that reduces startup torque. Additionally, depth adjustment is simple with the PR20EVSK: just align and lower the motor and then lock the router in position with the clamping level. Micro-fine adjustments are equally effortless thanks to the wheel on the back of the router's base.

To help you match the correct speed to the job, the included instruction manual features a chart showing the speed of each dial position, along with a list of the routing tasks that each setting may be used for.

User-Friendly Features for Flexibility, Comfort, and Reliability
This user-friendly tool offers simple, straightforward operation. First, the collect accepts standard 1/4-inch bits to give you job flexibility, with an impressive maximum diameter of 1-5/16 inch. For added convenience, a front spindle lock on the motor means easy, one-wrench bit changes, but a shaft wrench is also included for those who prefer to use two wrenches.

In addition, the speed dial is conveniently mounted on top of the tool body for easy access. An added bonus, the motor housing has a palm-shaped, rubber over-molded grip that allows for stable, one-handed operation. Finally, weighing about three pounds, the PR20EVSK offers a surprisingly rugged aluminum fixed base that's durable, solid, and reliable.

Constant Response Circuitry for Stable Motor Speed
This model includes Bosch's "Constant Response" circuitry, which monitors and maintains speed under load for consistent performance and overload protection. Constant Response works by detecting tough loads and then increasing power to maintain the selected RPM. Working with stable speed lets you concentrate on controlling the router, so you'll always make clean, burn-free cuts.

Additionally, a quick-clamp system allows the motor to be easily adjusted and moved from base to base. For further convenience, an angled cord exit keeps the router's cord safely out of your work area.

The PR20EVSK comes with a one-year warranty.

What's in the Box
Router, straight edge guide, carrying case, fixed base, 1/4-inch self-releasing collet, drop-forged collet, shaft wrenches, and instruction manual.

Excellent book
This book has the best illustrations I have ever seen in a book of this type. I probably own about fifteen books on routers and jigs that use routers. Most have similar content. This book has most everything the others have with better illustrations. What sets this book apart is the quality of illustrations and that it has some information that none of the others cover. The issue covered here and in none of my other books is how to use the router as a prelude to hand woodworking. For dovetails, no router jig can match the versatility a skilled woodworker can obtain by hand with a Japanese saw and a good set of chisels, but even a person making hand dovetails can save time and do some prep work with a router for some, but not all, dovetails.I took a class on woodworking essentials, including hand dovetailing, at Lonnie's woodworking school in Dandridge, TN. Many of the time saving techniques he taught in his class are in this book. In his class a...

Product Description

This book, in the "Complete Illustrated Guide" format covers one of the most popular tools in woodworking and home improvement in a step-by-step, highly visual presentation. The router is so popular because it can do an amazing variety of tasks. Bits and cutters can shape hundreds of profiles for edge treatments and moldings. Routers (especially the plunge type) can cut joinery from simple tongue and groove to interlocking and decorative joints. Mounted under a flat surface and guided by a fence, the router becomes a versatile shaping machine capable of safely spinning large bits for making large moldings and raising panels as well as more accurate joinery and shaping operations. Router users have developed hundreds of clever jigs for repetitive and dedicated operations. New bits, accessories, and enhancements for the router are constantly under development extending the use of this machine even further. This book covers all the practical router techniques as well as router table choice, construction and use and the techniques for popular jigs and fixtures.

Real good introduction to routers
Overall, I liked this book. It's right on and serves as a great introduction if you are new to routers. It's well laid out and has great chapters on the different types of routers, what to look for when purchasing. etc. It gives a nice comparison to aid you in determining which of the three basic types of routers is for you (If you haven't bought one yet). The book has super chapters on Basic Operations and the Joinery section is quite good, too. If you are completely new to routers or if you have garnered information piecemeal from reading posts in woodworking forums, this book walks you through the basics very nicely and completes the picture on topics like motor options, adapter sleeves for collets, guide bushings, how much wood to take off for the first cut, how to plunge, etc.He provides great insight that only an accomplished router user and woodworker can: Variations in bit shank diameters, horizontal versus vertical panel-raising bits, using woodworking...

Not sure who this book is aimed at...
There is some good info in here and certainly lots of nice photography, but it's not clear to me who would really benefit from this book. The topics are not covered in enough detail to really be useful to a beginner, but they also don't feel advanced or complete enough to be appropriate for advanced users or reference materials. It could probably be useful as a supplement to a more complete book (Hylton?) but I don't think it stands on its own very well.

Good but flawed
I am going to assume that the individual who wrote the only other review (so far) has not tried to build one of the fixtures or jigs depicted in the book. While most of the projects certainly look like great things to build for your home workshop I have found, as I build the Precision Crosscutting Jig, a bunch of inaccuracies. Measurements and dimensions given in the Technical Drawings don't match what is either pictured or what is explained in text elsewhere. In one instance "5/16" should actually read "5/8" which is quite a discrepancy. Another gives the thickness of one of the fences as 11/16" when, from the picture, it looks more like 1 1/2". One of the most blaring errors is the measurements of the placement of a hole that is WAAAAAY off. I don't even know where they came up with the numbers for that one. If I had actually drilled the hole where they told me to drill it the piece would have been ruined. Glad I double checked it.Here are some of my other...

Running at 30,000 RPM, the Buffalo Tools Trim Router will accomplish any routing job. The cutting depth is adjustable and the collet accepts most router bits. Top to learn more

Good for the price
I got this trim router just for working on MDF. It works great and is not as noisy as I expected!.For the price, and not for hard work is ok. I decided to buy extra things for this device like a speed controller, digital tachometer and an adapter to use the 1/8" bits (like Demel bits).I use it in a home made CNC router (this is why I am doing all this technical deployment!)
Top to learn more

used, but works OK
The trimmer arrived promptly but it had obviously been used. The bags were all open, small parts were loose in the box and there were signs of wear on the body of the trimmer. Obviously Amazon should disclose when goods it sells are not new. However it worked fine trimming laminate. Of course it is not a heavy duty router and extended heavy duty use might do it in, but for a trimmer it seems sturdy and did the job at a very reasonable price.

incredible router!!!!!!
I own them all 12 routers in all and this is by far the quietest router ive heard period.Im a pro cabinet builder/home remodeler and use my tools constantly this is very smooth and stable on its base and although its made in china it has extremely good build quality throughout. The quick lock lever for locking the router in its base is the best and easiest ive seen, no struggling here its so easy to close and lock it seems it wont hold the router in its base but it works like a charm even on heavy cuts, very good engineering..as far as power it has more than enough without bogging down to handle all but the largest raised panel bits with ease. You wont be dissapointed with this router and the price cant be beat for the quality..Now i want this in a 3-1/4 horsepower model, maybe that will be available ...

Powerful Motor Operates Quietly
The M12VC's 11 Amp, 2-1/4 peak horsepower motor produces enough speed to cut through hardwoods with ease. Equipped with electronic speed control, the M12VC produces a no-load speed of 8,000-24,000 RPM. This means the router maintains constant RPM even as the load varies, so you'll get precise, controlled cuts in a wide range of materials.

Despite its powerful motor, the M12VC operates quietly. In fact, this router has a class-leading noise level of just 79.5dB, which means you'll get a quiet workshop, reduced vibration, and improved control.

Quick and Easy Depth Adjustments
The M12VC utilizes a two-stage motor release clamp for quick and accurate depth adjustments. The release clamp makes it easy to change from a fixed base to a plunge base (not included). Depth adjustments are also made easy by the nickel-plated motor housing, which also helps to reduce scratches and stains on the tool body.

The M12VC has a collet capacity of 1/2 inch (not included) and 1/4 inch (included).

Ergonomically Designed for Comfort and Control
Like all Hitachi tools, the M12VC is ergonomically designed to enhance comfort and control on the job. To start, this tool weighs only 7.3 pounds, making comfortable enough for freehand routing. Additionally, the handles are wrapped in Elastomer compound to reduce vibration and prevent slippage for ultimate control. For further ease of use, the fixed base offers a smooth work surface for gliding over the workpiece without scratching.

The M12VC is backed by Hitachi's industry-leading five-year warranty.

A cautionary note
I bought this router during a promotion about a year ago. I figured for the price, I couldn't go too wrong. I use this router mounted in my router lift with good results. Positive experience echos that of many other reviews. However, I do need to sound a couple notes of caution:1. I've had some problems with the collet(s) releasing bits. The design seems a little odd, and Its a struggle releasing some bits without damaging the collet jaws. For best results, be sure you don't fully seat the router bit. If you have problems with the bit releasing, tap it lightly with a rubber or plastic mallet before removing the bit. It should drop free. (Please see the following comment section for some updated information)2. Buried in the manual, just before it turns to French, owners are cautioned to inspect the carbon brushes for wear. DO IT. Neither I nor my carpenter peers have had a router go through carbon brushes in less than a year, but this one did. Hitachi...

This is a very solid tool for the money!
I have been looking at this router for some time now and waiting for one of the woodworking magazines to include it in a head to head tool review. Unfortunately that didn't seem to be happening, so armed with a discount coupon I took the plunge...and I am happy to report that this is a very good tool. The motor is superb - very quiet for a router, especially one this powerful. The electronic variable speed works flawlessly and so far I have gotten great results hand routing in pine, oak, and walnut. Though the collett wrenches are cheap stamped things, they do the job. Speaking of colletts, this model includes one of each - 1/4" and 1/2". They seem to be of the no-frozen-bits variety so that is all good. I have not tried this router in my table yet as I feel my DeWalt 2 1/4 hp is better suited to that for its ease of adjustment and quick motor removal.Overall, I am very impressed with the quality, fit and finish of this tool and for the money I am astounded.
