Fantastic bike for the price
Let me start with some history. Thirty years ago I worked a summer job as a Schwinn bicycle mechanic. I loved that job. In the process I assembled a ton of bicycles. I also purchased a Schwinn Continental 10 speed. Thirty years ago that was a great bike. Even by today's standards it would be a cool bike. That bike was stolen in 1982ish.Move forward to 2006. I started getting the itch to ride a bicycle again. I tooled out to WalMart and bought one of those RoadMaster MtFurys for 53 bucks and rode it everyday. I decided I wanted a road bike since I was riding farther and longer, week by week. So, I ordered the 63cm GMC Denali from Amazon. The bike arrived through the US mail in a box that looked like they dragged it behind the mail truck for a few miles. I was worried that something was broken. Nevertheless, I opened er up and the bike was fine. They packed it in a manner that allows it to take a bit of a beating in shipping. Since I was an old...

Very good, not perfect, but price makes it a great deal!
Putting it together:The bike came with the typical assembly needed for a bike shipped in a cardboard box. Attach the steering column, front tire, seat, pedals, reflectors. Then adjust brakes and fine tune gears. No big deal. Several different size allen wrenches, open end wrenches, pliers, and a screwdriver were needed. It was not hard, but if you've never put a bike together before it might seem like a lot of work, and you still might wind up at a bike shop for proper gear and brake adjustments.Initial thoughts:It is a nice looking bike and since road bikes are pretty much only sold in bike shops, most people will assume it cost a LOT more than it really did. A friend asked if I spent "over $1,000" on it.I have no problems with build quality. The welds look good, the bike seems solid, the seat tube fit fine. I was surprised how well the frame fits my 6'0" size. The Good Things:> Nice looking bike...

Diamond In The Rough?
The Denali is typical of mass produced, imported, department store bicycles. It will need some tinkering and adjustments, the extent of which will depend upon your experience, tools and desires. Most riders opting for this road bike will want to do things like true the wheels and adjust the brakes and derailleurs. They are close out of the box but need tweaking. Aesthetically, it is pretty with its anodized blue look, accented with black and silver stickers. The wheel stickers make the bike look expensive, but the metal name plates on the frame are a bit tacky and look like they're about to fall off (although you probably couldn't pry them off if you wanted to). Newer models don't have the name plates.Problem areas on my Denali were the brake lever hoods (which began splitting after a few day's use), less than desired stopping power, and a bottom bracket lock ring that needed tightening. Installing upgraded levers with better hoods eliminated the splitting, and better...

Epic quality beautiful finish
THE best single speed in price range, flawlessly done, all parts high quality and top notch packaging during shipping.pros: kendra all terrains, hidden brake lines in handle grips, chain guard removes easily for exposed sprocket look, comfortable seat, low price, unique color, easy flip flop hubbed wheelcons: a tad heavy for a road bike but easily lighten-able, too many stickers (but they removed effortlessly) toe hooks don't handle extreme stress well (easily replaceable though), tire on flip flop wheel is directional (so it's backwards when in fixed geared position)

"A steal for the price."
I bought this bike back in Jan 11. Packaging for the bike was as expected, very solid. The set-up for the bike is nice and easy and required only basic tools to get her up and running within 10 minutes. So, with that that said, this is great for someone looking to buy an affordable, high quality, and stylish bike. Flashy colors, big tires, comfortable to ride, though maybe it is a bit on the heavy side, but nevertheless smooth, fast and simple and the flip-hub feature, which gives you the option of riding in fixed gear, is a great addition. I ride this in Austin, TX where there are a lot of hills and it is a little less than ideal, but very manageable once you become familiar with the area. So, maybe if you live in a hilly area and are new to biking then a single speed may not be what you are looking for (but to each their own!). Here in Austin there is a big bike scene so naturally a lot of people ask about the bike. They always seem surprised when I say it was only 220 and I keep...

Best Bike in its Class
More in depth specs. Seat post 55cm, top post 56cm, rear cassette 7-speed 14-28t LOOK UP SUGGESTED BIKE SIZE FOR RIDERS.How is this bike similar to a $700 bike:Modern components easily upgradeable, serviceable, and standard. The bike stem brakes cassettes, everything except the handle bars that are smaller than 28mm( I think) which means no clip on aero bars. Light weight well constructed frame and wheels. Wheels have no seam like other cheap bikes. It has a seat that is very usable. Smooth reliable shifts. Components ( brake shifters etc.) are very workable. Cage pedals are great! How is in unlike a $700 road bike.Shifter separate from brakes. 7 speed instead of 8 speed rear cassette. I could only get the derailleur to work on the lowest six gears. Never really needed the high 28t anyways. The chain rubbed the frame on 14t when i first got it. I just put a washer between the cassette and the frame.( adjustment of the axle might have fixed it). Wheel...

my new ride the good, the bad, and the ugly
First of all I consider myself a serious commuter rider. I ride 3000 miles a year, have for two years, on and off for 35 years. I've had Schwinns, Gitanes, and Motobecanes. I hit a pothole, ended up in the hospital and destroyed my 35 year old Motobecane a few weeks ago. My bike is my only means of transportation, so replacing it was a must. I'm not a weekend racer or casual rider. I'm 6'6", 240 pounds, and an engineer. I need my bike tough, fast, and with a really high high gear. I'm not interested in some overpriced bike to impress my weekend bike warrior friends. I don't run around in spandex. I've now had it a year and still stand by this review. What I like: The balance is good, light as a feather, the padded tape handle bars are wonderful, the gearing is great, the shifters that actually go right to the desired gears are heavenly, the brake calipers do a great job of centering on the tires. I like the quick release front hub with self centering fork depressions. Quick...

Schwinn Prelude Road Bike
Got this bike about a month ago after deciding to change from a hybrid to a road bike. This bike is priced right, is light & fast, has a nice paint job , straight & true wheels and a fairly comfy seat. I've put about 1500 miles on it and SO FAR I've had to adjust the rear derailleur, adjust the steering stem bolt DAILY and adjust the cranks DAILY (what a Pain and they both still creak!). I'm about 6' & 180 and the bike seems to fit me nicely. The brakes could have been positioned on the handlebars differently because you lose precious fractions of seconds trying to find and grab them in an emergency when you're not in the Race position on the drop down bars. Assembly instructions were terse and hard to understand and seemed to be written by an engineer on 6 beers. If you have a limited budget and you want an entry level road bike that you have to tinker with maybe this is your bike.

Best entry level road bike ever!!!!!!!!
I had decided to buy the Denali Pro after i visited my local bike shop and became very depressed at the fact that the cheapest entry level road bike there was $629.00. So needless to say i did some research online and found the Denali Pro on EB*Y for around $249.00. After assembling the bike and spending a day fine-tuning all the gears and the brakes to how I like them (watch a couple of youtube videos on how to fine-tune bike gears and brakes---this helped me out a lot with getting that local bike shop fine-tuning without the local bike shop price tag), I took the bike out for a test ride (10 miles). I rode the bike on my local bike path and found it to be very responsive and comfortable to ride. The bike is very fast. I was able to keep the bike at a constant speed of 21 mph for the duration of my ride with little effort. One draw back to the bike was the saddle. This comes as no surprise since the bike comes with a generic stock road bike saddle. I upgraded the saddle to a ARS...

Amazon.com Bicycle Buying Guide

Finding the Right Bike
To really enjoy cycling, it's important to find a bicycle that works for you. Here are some things to keep in mind when you're in the market for a new bike:

The Right Ride
In general, bikes are broken down into three major categories:

  • Road and Racing Bikes--As a general rule, road and racing are built for speed and longer distances on paved surfaces. Thinner tires, lightweight 29-inch (700c) wheels, and drop bars that allow for a more aerodynamic position are the norm. Most road bikes, regardless of price, offer many gears for tackling both hilly and flat terrain.
  • Mountain Bikes--With their larger tires, hill-friendly gearing, and upright position, mountain bikes are very popular for all types of riding, both on pavement and off. Mountain bikes that are designed specifically for rugged trail use typically feature a suspension fork. Some may have rear suspension, as well. A quick change of the tires on any mountain bike--even one that you use regularly on trails--adds to its versatility and makes it a worthy street machine.
  • Comfort/Cruiser Bikes--For tooling around on bike paths, light trails, or for cruising a quiet beach-side lane, comfort/cruiser bikes are the ticket. With a super-relaxed riding position, padded seats, and limited or no gearing, these bikes are made for enjoying the scenery and having fun with the family.

The Right Price
A bike's price boils down to three essentials: frame materials, bike weight, and component quality and durability.

  • Entry-level--You'll find a wide range of comfort and cruiser bikes in this category, as well as some lower-end mountain bikes and road bikes. Most will have steel frames and components that are designed to last for several years with frequent use.
  • Mid-range--Bikes in this range may feature a lighter aluminum frame with mid-range components that keep performing after miles of use. If you're looking for a quality bike that is relatively lightweight and will stand up to abuse, this is the "sweet spot." Most serious commuter and touring bikes fall into this category, as do mid-range mountain bikes with a decent front suspension.
  • High-end--Racers and serious enthusiasts who expect lightweight, high-performance components will want to stick to this category. For road bikes, exotic frame materials (carbon fiber, titanium) and ultralightweight components can add thousands to the price tag. Mountain bikes in this class often feature advanced front and rear suspension technology, as well as components designed to handle lots of rugged trail action.

The Right Size
Fit is crucial for comfort, control, and proper power and endurance on a bike. Here are some basic bike fit tips:

  • Stand-over Height--To find out if a bike's overall height fits your body, measure your inseam. Next, determine how much clearance you'll need between your crotch and the top tube of the bike. For a mountain bike, you'll want three to five inches of clearance. A road bike should offer between one and two inches of clearance, while a commuter bike should have two to four inches. Compare the stand-over height for a given bike to your measurements (inseam + clearance) to determine the right bike height.
  • Top Tube Length--You can measure your torso to get a good estimate of proper top tube length. First, make a fist and extend your arm. Measure from the center of your fist to the end of your collarbone (the part that intersects your shoulder). Next, measure your torso by placing a book against your crotch with the spine facing up. Measure from the spine to the bottom of your throat (the spot between your collarbones). Finally, add the two measurements (arm length + torso length), divide the number in half, and subtract six inches. This is your approximate top tube length. Compare this number to a bike's posted top tube length. You can allow for about two inches longer or shorter, as most bikes can be adjusted via stem length/height and saddle fore/aft position to make fine adjustments to the fit.
  • Bikes for Women--Proportionally, women tend to have a shorter torso and longer legs than men. Bike makers design women's bikes that offer a shorter top tube and many comfort/cruiser bikes built for women may also provide more stand-over clearance.

The Right Accessories
When you make a bike purchase, don't forget these crucial add-ons:

  • Helmet (this is a must!)
  • Seat pack
  • Lock
  • Hydration pack, or water bottle and bottle cage
  • Spare tubes
  • Portable bike pump
  • Gloves

Excellent Value for a low-end road bike
I am an avid cyclist who also owns 5 other bikes, including another higher end quicker carbon fiber/aluminum road bike, which is my basis for comparison. The Pro is the cheapest road bike available with integrated shifters/brakes (brifters). It is made in China. The Pro gives you an authentic and responsive road bike feel without the typical road bike price.RIDEThe frame geometry, wheelbase, and riding position is agressive/speed oriented, rather than comfort/touring oriented. I have ridden over 1500 miles at the time of this writing and have taken it on city roads, serious rides, and on rollers. Recently, this bike was ridden on a 110-mile ride with no problems. It rides similar to my other road bike, except the handlebars are a smaller diameter and due to the steel fork, the front end is 1.75" taller. The handlebars have conventional bends rather than anatomic bends, which I prefer. The stiffness/suppleness of the frame/fork is comparable to my other bike...

Acceptable if on sale.
Just received my second one from Amazon. Returned the first one after sprocket ratchet mechanism failed four miles into my first ride. Prior to that, I was very pleased with the ride. I purchased the bike on sale from Amazon for less than half the list price, so I decided to exchange it instead of returning it. For typical price of 299, you would likely be better off finding a used bike of higher quality. For 170, I think I will be pleased, even if I have to deal with occasional problems. Amazon was of course wonderful in the exchange process, shipping a new one overnight and providing free return shipping of the defective bike.

Not bad for the price!
I was looking for a Road Bike for my son. Looking around in local bike store, their price seems too high even for a no name bike. Came across this bike and it seems to fit my son's needs. Receive bike in good condition ... nice wheel & spokes. Have to give credit to Schwinn for double boxing the bike. Assembly was easy and took me about 1/2 hr to get it done. All parts in good working condition. Bike is light weight ... less than 27 lbs. It is not Carbon as listed in the Bike title. Kind of misleading on the description. It overall Aluminum frame but light enough. Whether it is wrapped in Carbon I don't really know. Also, the Top Bar is not slanted. It is flat horizontally (on the website, it looks slanted a little). The bike rides smooth. Gear is easy to change from the STI shifter on the brake. Some important size measurement to know that I do not find it on the website :Center of the bottom bracket to the top of the seat tube : 56cmStand-over height : 77 1/2...

Good bike for the price
I must say, I have never bought a Schwinn bike before but I was quite pleased with the Varsity bike. Let me start out buy saying that this is a 300.00 bike, not a 500 or 600 bike. The components you receive on the bike from the Shimano line are the shifters and the rear derailer. You get a aftermarket crankset from Samox components and brakes from promax that stop the bike fairly well. After you do a fair bit of research you will find that you can buy your brakes and crank set for a whopping 60.00 tops.In order to get a bike like this in the 300 range you have cut somewhere, and that somewhere is in the components. The bike is not made here but what things are today. It is very well constructed and rides nice. You could upgrade to a better seat as the factory one is okay but i can find more comfortable ones out there. Those of you that are not familiar with the integrated road shifters that are built into the brakes is something you have to get use to. I did not have trouble figuring...

Fits me well.
This is my first road bike. So far I've only taken it for one 25 mile trip, but I'm happy because I'm not passed by everyone on the trail with a road bike anymore. I now have to do more riding and train for the races I want to enter next year. The biggest concern that I had buying this product was whether it was going to be the right size. I'm 5'5.5 and was afraid the frame would be too large. The box said 28 in and 128L X 18W X 71H. After taking an inseem measurement of myself I discovered that my inseem was barely above 28" so I opened the box. The bike fits me well, but I do ride with the seat in the lowest position. Note to those who think this is the same as the CF-1000 from Walmart. It is not. This is probably where some of the size confusion has come about.Assembly was almost do it my self, but I couldn't get the front brake centered perfectly and could not get the front derailer adjusted perfectly(though now that I've ridden it I realize I wasn't...

Giordano Road Bike
I purchased this road bike to ride about 1-2 miles to school everyday. I have owned it for 2 weeks now and i have been very pleased. It came in excellent condition! It rides smooth and handles well. The things i do not like about the bike is the seat and seat post are very cheap. The pedals are also very cheap and low quality. But for the price i cannot complain. It also has a flip flop hub so anyone looking for a fixie for a decent price look no further. The frame is also very lightweight, and if you does not like the "Giordano" logos around the bike they are all stickers so you can easily remove them. Over all, I would recommend this bike to anyone who needs a basic and simple road bike.

A head turner
I bought this bike for my son to ride to school and back; about 3 miles one way. This is an excellent bike, turns heads wherever it goes. I took it to the local bike shop for some work (more on that later) and all the bike afficiandos were asking where I got the bike from and how much it cost. And they all said that the price I paid for it was an excellent deal. The reason I had to take the bike to the bike shop is that there were some parts missing in the box that is was delivered in (hence the 4 stars and not 5). One of the brake pads were missing for the front tire and the tools were not there either to tighten the steering wheel. Apart from that, excellent bike and good value for the money.

Flat handle bars, Brake Levers, Seatpost, Pedals. Removed all the stickers on frame and wheels, removed reflectors, chainring guard, kickstand (how many adults still use a kickstand) I'm 6' and the 56cm frame is fine.ProsLighweight Aluminum FrameWheelset is also fairly lightFlip Flop HubAll stickers can be removed easily...
