No problems!
This product was great. We followed the directions and it went up in a snap. Covered what we needed it to and was easy to use. It was simple to put up with two people, I don't know that I would attempt it by myself as it wouldn't be as easy with just two hands, but I'm sure possible. Had no problems cutting it to size. Once it is up you cannot see through it to the inside of the house during the daytime. At night with the lights on you can see in so it is necessary to use shades or curtains. I am happy with the purchase and the product. I would buy this product again.

Easier than it seems. Finished look is great.
If you follow all instructions and use all tools available and use two people (at least for your first time), this is an easy and quick project. However, just plan on ruining the first one you attempt. Once you mess up the first one, you can get a good system down. My wife and I were able to do two windows in an hour (after throwing the first one away because it curled around and stuck to itself) and the second one was a breeze.1st - Use two people unless it's a very small window or you've done this before. The hardest part it getting the film from the cutting table to the window because it tends to stick to itself. Keep all 4 corners held at all times and use plenty of spray.2nd - Buy the installation kit that you can get separately. You still will need a squeegee and some other tools but it really helps.3rd - Follow the video instructions on Gilafilm's website. I didn't even look at the paper instructions.4th - Don't try and align a "factory edge"...

Not particularly difficult
Like a previous reviewer, my husband and I also live in Texas (Austin as well, in fact) and decided to install window films in our new house. We've had record heat this year, so it seemed like a wise investment. Enter Gila.I actually did the first two windows by myself and didn't have too much of a problem. I ended up with one barely-noticeable crease in the first from not being careful enough about peeling off the backing, but otherwise didn't have too much trouble. It was easier, however, doing the remaining windows with two people. The windows look fantastic, nearly professional grade, and certainly nothing like the horrid window tinting that people throw up in old clunker cars.Tips:1) Read the instructions.2) Clean your windows obsessively before starting.3) Cut the film ~1 inch larger on each side.4) Peel the backing off VERY slowly and carefully.5) Spray the window and both sides of the film liberally with a soap & water...

great film
I installed this film on my patio door last summer to cut down on the heat being transferred from the concrete pad, worked like a charm. Did the same for my son's room and guest room, huge difference. Went ahead and did the rest of my house this spring, and again, same results, works very, very well.Things you WILL need to do1) Suck it up and get an install kit or at a minimum the plastic blade. It will save time and hassle.2) Clean your window well, and use a razor to scrape any excess dirt/paint off the window to prevent bubbling. Then clean it again. Same process used by a buddy of mine, who is a professional tint man for auto and home.3) Have a helper. When it comes time to peell the backing off the film, this will be a lifesaver.4) No such thing as getting the film too wet. Spray the heck out of it and your window when installing. All excess can be squeeged out. Don't forget to spray it a bit once it's mounted to help the squeege...

read the directions 3 times....
This product is quite ez to install once you understand the importance of the solution sprayed on the window and the film. The solution is 90% to make this job as ez as possible, The solution prevents the adhesive from adhering to anything including the window until you are ready. As many have said clean the window twice to remove any contaminants/debris on the surface. If there is debris it will show very badly after the film is applied. As stated cut the film about 1/2 to 3/4 more than you need for the window size. On the first windows this will be helpful as you gain experience. To remove the liner apply a piece of tape to the corner front and back and pull the pieces opposite and the liner will come away from the film. Lay the film so liner is on top and where the corner is exposed spray solution on the adhesive side (facing up) gently pull back on the liner and spray more exposed adhesive area. Advance the liner little more and spray again. This is easiest if someone can do the...

Yes, it can be done by one person alone!
I'm sure it could very well be easier with a couple of people, but I can also see how two people could mess up just as easily, if not moreso :) I only messed up the first piece before coming up with this method, and then everything onward was flawless. So here's what I did. I took each of my rolls and rolled them in the opposite direction on some wrapping paper tubes while I cleaned the windows. This is suggested in the instructions and seemed to work well. I put the re-rolled film outside in the heat while I did the prep work of cleaning windows, and that seemed to help. If it is Winter I guess you can just leave them inside for longer, just re-roll them ahead of time. As I was ready to use the film, I just layed it out flat on the floor to measure and cut to size.Cut a piece to size as recommended by the instructions. Lay the cut film on a large table clear side up. A long folding table that you can adhere tape to works well. Also, you might have to...

5 STARS (and well earned)
I live in Salt Lake City--5,000 feet (MUCH more UV and solar heat than sea level) and up to 110 degrees--in a 10th floor apartment with over 100 square feet of west-facing window. The west side gets direct sun from about 1:00 to sunset and can get over 120 degrees without A/C. Over the years I relied on blasting the window A/C and circulating the air with 3 floor fans and a ceiling fan, and still couldn't stand being near the west side during the day for more than a little while. Oh, the electric bills!!I was doubtful about window film, but I couldn't be more delighted. It actually reduced the solar gain by 3/4; I was able to keep the NW corner well below 80 in mid-afternoon with only one floor fan, a ceiling fan, and the window unit set at 75, and only had to do all this until late afteroon instead of all night. And in 10% humidity 70-80 degrees is completely comfortable. For the first time in years I ate dinner right in the NW corner in complete comfort and could...

Follow instructions to the letter!
My wife and I have now installed this film on several windows and two patio doors in our home. In the process, we have messed up a couple of times, but managed to figure out why (see helpful hints below).I don't know how effective the heat control film is at keeping out the heat. Only time will tell. But here are three recommendations for "frustration free" installation:1) ALWAYS have someone helping you. Don't even think about instalilng this without at least two people.2) Before peeling the film (very sticky) from the liner, spray both sides generously. This helps cut down on the static electricity, which causes the film to curl and stick to itself--often resulting in ruined film and frustrated installers.3) Gila does not suggest this, but it worked like a charm with us (after we had messed up, unfortunately). Before you peel the liner from the film, have your helper clip two clothespins to the bottom two corners while you...

We love it!
We covered all the windows in our house in Arizona the beginning of August. We wish we had done it sooner. It saved on air conditioning and allowed us to keep our blinds open and see out even on the hottest of days. We had tried another brand of window film and had to return it because it was so unmanagable. Follow directions and take your time. About four hours a day is enough unless you were born very patient or are not doing the project with a spouse you wish to keep. The suggestion about starting with an inconspicuous window was good--also start with a small window. We ended the project with two eight-foot doorwall windows. We peiced near the bottom rather than at eye level. We laid thick cardboard under the cutting surface on our island and used sharp razors which we replaced often. The transparent film, which you would not know was there if someone didn't tell you, is meant to be left on to protect the film. It is invisible and does not need to be removed so just...

Great product but tricky to cut.
I recommend this product. It does what it says it does. The hardest part is cutting it to the exact size (smaller than your window surface but not so small there is a noticeable gap). Do yourself a favor and apply the first one to the least prominent window and work your way up to the ones that matter. The manufacturer doesn't help with this...there are no pre-printed lines on the paper separator. The best method I found was to roll it out on a large table and tape it in several places; make marks using a long straight edge, and then cut with a utility knife. Any other technique usually ended in the film sliding around, choppy cuts, etc. Installation is relatively easy (IF YOU CUT IT TO THE RIGHT SIZE). My only other complaint is that the sizes it is sold in don't allow you to efficiently cover windows without wasting a fair amount of product (unless you are willing to splice, which would probably be OK but I didn't try it).

window film
This product worked fine. was relatively easy to apply even in a larger area (48"x48") and could be repositioned to smooth out wrinkles and air bubbles.ONE BIG PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!! THE ADVERTIZED DIMENSION ARE ONE HALF SHORT !!( it is 47.5" x 83.5" NOT 48"x84") unfortunately I needed those extra halfinches for my window. the result is that I have a 1/4" edge all around window panels. This also made the application more difficult!I would suggest that the manufacturer advertize it as 47"x83" and let customers deal with the extra 1/2"

This get's the job done!!
My wife and I bought this and put it up. It is pretty decent for something that is not done by a professional. The good thing is that you don't have to worry about adhesives and all the junk. The bad thing is that it is not air tight against the window in the the corners. Solution is to get some clear insulation tape and put it on the corners. Now is the super positive news, it KEEPS the sun heat to a reasonable level which is quite extraordinary. Our room faced the setting sun and it killed us with the heat and excessive warmth that would raise our room temperature to excesses of 100 degrees on a 80 degree day and that was with good blinds and thermal curtains. With the help of this treatment, it made a drastic difference that is unbelievable. For the price, this is GREAT stuff.

great product
I was looking for glare and sun protection for my family room, and because we have large multi angled windows that face the southwest the glare and the heat were unbearable. I read the reviews for this product and it sounded great. It was, and it was easy to install. This product was easy to cut, it helped to read the reviews and to get other peoples opinions. Make sure to tape the film down first before cutting and to use a sharp utility knive. Also I found that using a credit card instead of the squeegy was much easier in removing the water. This product has made a huge difference we are enjoying the comfort of our family room.
