Better charger now?
I purchased the CEF14 charger with four batteries and the charger supplied is not the same one pictured, nor is it a "dumb" charger as some have described. It can also charge four aa or aaa batteries and is not limited to two aaa's again as some have described. When I tested it, different batteries charged at different speeds and the charger switched modes to a trickle charge when a set became fully charged. As for the batteries themselves, they do indeed seem to be comparable to Sanyo Eneloops or Rayovac Hybrids at a slightly lower price.

Perfect for digital camera
Not sure how Duracell did it, but they solved the one con with the Ni-mH type batteries. These pre-charged, Ni-mH batteries don't discharge when not being used, so they're perfect for digital devices. This charger with 4 batteries doesn't cost much more than just the 4 batteries alone. Here's what you do: acquire twice as many of these batteries w/ the green label as what your digital camera will take. While you're using one set in your camera keep the other set in this charger. Then, when the set in the camera go dead, just swap them out with the set that's in the charger. You've always got a set of fresh batteries and no waiting for batteries to charge, plus no buying batteries for a long time. This is more expensive initially but saves a lot of $$$ in the long run.

worth every penny!
Excellent batteries! with my experiences with rechargeable batteries this is way better than any other Ni-MH rechargeable batteries. I have tried different batteries and they die easily, get discharged after few hours or even just a minute of not using it! But this Sanyo eneloop takes months before it dies. Btw. I am using this battery for my Camera flash (SB-600 Nikon) and at first I bought a energizer 2500 mah but it dies after i used it for couple shots. for 2500 mah? seriously? What a joke! I switched and used sanyo 2000 mah and it took tons of flashes before it died. Can't go wrong with these batteries. It's perfectly awesome and suits my needs.Batteries are made in Japan. - Awesome!Charger is made is China. - It's okay

Excellent batteries, mediocre charger

Say goodbye to conventional batteries!
Aren't you tired of constantly having to pick up batteries at your local Target or Costco, or whatever box store you go to for your battery purchases? Well, I definitely was. I decided to go for some rechargeable batteries so that I would be able to reuse my depleted batteries and not have to inconvenience myself with the proper method of disposal for my used AA/AAA batteries. I knew before I purchased these batteries that they would maintain a good charge because this is the battery that the Logitech g700 mouse comes with. Now, the only thing I want to mention is that it could be frustrating to use the charger depending on how you use your batteries. This charger only charges batteries in pairs. So, if you use several devices that only need 1 battery, you might run into a bit of trouble. Obviously, keeping a good stock on rechargeable batteries would counteract this drawback. Also, this charger takes a LONG time to charge! 7-10 hours depending on the battery.I...

Excellent Camera Flash Batteries
I bought two of this set to use in my Canon 580EX DSLR flash and Canon CP-E4 external flash power pack. The AA are blue and AAA are green, as these are the ones with 2000 cycle times with no hysteresis. I used 12 AA batteries for my flash system and the remaining cells to be used for other things like remote controls and wireless mice. I could not be more pleased. The flash recycle time is the fastest I've seen with any battery. This includes disposable alkaline lithium Energizer and Duracell AA cells. In one evening I was able to do nearly 600 flash shots without ever having to wait for the flash to recycle! I kept going, thinking "well, my flash may not fire this time since the batteries are loosing their charge." I knew the Eneloops would be better, but I didn't know it would be this much better. I wish I had gotten the Eneloops a couple of years ago. The charger does take several hours to recharge Eneloop cells and it would probably be best to get a high quality Maha...

Sanyo Delievers
I bought this for one reason alone: Classic style rechargeable batteries after a month or so, will discharge most of their charge! Requiring another recharging cycle, wasting your time, and increasing your power bill. It also made it impossible to have a spare fully charged and ready to go. I don't know how Sanyo did it, but I am glad they did. These are all high quality batteries, all 'Made in Japan', that look stylish [love the shades of blue] and work just as described.A must buy for any household. I use them in wireless mouse, remotes, and my camera. You should too ~

Xcellent for Xbox 360 controller
I was skeptical of buying rechargeable batteries because some are duds. However, I bought my oldest boy an Xbox 360 and I did not want to continuously pay money for batteries. Therefore, I decided to buy this charger. It works great. The game is played a ton. Still, the batteries last about three weeks, prior to needing re-charging. Initially, you will have to charge the batteries for eight hours for a full charge. The countdown timer indicates how much time is left for a full charge. Once the counter reaches 0, the batteries are fully charged. Since the charging duration is long, I would suggest keeping two batteries charged, at all times. Therefore, when the other two batteries run out, they can be switched with two charged batteries. I don't know what the issue is with other reviewers of this product. All I can say is I got my money's worth. Not to mention, I am saving money by not continuously paying money for batteries. That can be very expensive.

'Smart', as in 'Maxwell Smart'?
This package () contains a very impressive-looking charger. The charger (CHP41US) features a countdown timer, a battery 'Fuel Gauge', and four bad-battery indicators. It looks like a very smart charger - until I examined closer. The first warning sign is that: Would You Believe this charger can only charge in pairs? That is, it cannot handle 1 or 3 cells. A real smart charger has to monitor and charge cells individually, because this is the only way to ensure that each cell is not over-charged or under-charged.The next thing I found out is that: the so-called 'countdown timer' is mostly for show. It's The Old "2-bit counter in a 7-segment display" Trick. The display always start from '8' (eight hours) when a pair of depleted cells...

Best charger I ever owned
UPDATE: (01-12-2012) It has been almost 4 years since I wrote this review. This charger is still working great!I have owned at least 8 chargers in the past, Maha's, Panasonic, etc. It is nice to see that this charger shows you the mAh on the LCD panel as the battery charges up. Most chargers you only see an LED indicator to signal when charging is done.Compared to the specs of BC-900, the BC700 can only go up to 700mA (the max) which means it is somewhat slower than the BC900. But the faster the battery charges, the hotter it gets. And one of the worst enemy of rechargeable batteries is heat. Less heat means longer life for the batteries.Pros:- 3 adjustable charging speeds- Will show you the actual capacity in mAh. This is good so you know which battery needs to be refreshed. You always want to use batteries with the same capacities in pair or in a group.- 4 independent charging stations with individual LED readouts. "AA's"...

BC-700/900/1000 FAQ
[Update on April 4, 2012]My original review was written back in August 2007. Now, nearly 5 years later, most of its content is no longer current. So I will use this spot for publishing my "Frequently Asked Questions" relating to BC-700/900/1000 family of chargers. This list is work in progress and will grow with time. Let me know if you have new questions to be added. Here goes...[Q1] There are four operation modes on the BC-700 (Charge, Discharge, Test and Refresh). Which mode should I use and when?[A] Most of the time you just need CHARGE mode. That means put in the batteries and select the charging current desired (500/700mA, etc)If you want to know how much capacity your batteries actually hold, use the CHARGE/TEST function. Be careful not to run this operation if the batteries are freshly charged. If you suspect your batteries suffer from reduced capacity, run the DISCHARGE/REFRESH operation. Or you can use this mode to refresh your batteries...

Great charger but.......
This is a great charger and when I bought it it was about $15 less than the BC-900. Now the BC-900 is less than this charger. The difference between this charger and the BC-900 is the lack of the faster charging speeds and the accessories. Definitley buy the BC-900 and the accessory package for less money. It seems they are constantly playing games with the pricing on these two chargers. The BC-700 charger does a great job of reconditioning batteries and the charging speed is usually between 2-3 hours for the different capacity batteries that I have. (1800mh - 2650mh). Time is not an issue for me as I have about 10 sets of AA's and can just keep swapping them out. From what i've read the slower charging speed is better for the life span of your battery any way.

This is how batteries should be made!
Pros:-For a rechargeable battery, these batteries does not need to be charged before you use it for the first time; right from the packaging into your gadgets.-They last a long time.-Does not need special charger. You can use your existing NiMh charger.Cons:-You can confuse them with regular Duracells and mistakenly thrown away after losing charge.-This later technology is still expensive.I also like Eneloops by Sanyo. But they are not easily available at your local stores.
