easy install, very small, easy wiring
Installed ten of these in a 1/2" drywall ceiling. Used a 3-1/8" hole saw. They are short enough to fit if the ceiling has 2x6 joists. The electrical box works best with romex if you punch out the knockouts and use a romex strain relief. That way the wires are secured better as you work the unit into the hole.Snap-in eyeball housing holds the GU-10 lamp easily and securely and allows aiming. I replaced a few of the included 50-watt halogen lamps that run very hot with 6-watt 3-LED CREE MR-16 lamps that produce almost no heat but put out the same illumination. Very nice. These come with white painted trim. The tiny units make my old 6" can lights look really clunky and old fashioned. The new generation of miniature LED lamps will mean totally redesigned and more compact ceiling lights. Top to learn more

Just what we needed
these were just what our kitchen needed! Easy to install, easy to replace the stock halogens with LED bulbs, by the way, the height of the bulb does not matter in this fixture! I was so stressed trying to figure out which bulb to order and seeing all these nightmares about the bulbs not fitting...no need to worry with this, it will fit any height as the cover is what is holding the bulb.I couldn't find a 3-1/8" hole saw, so I used a 3" and made the hole a little wider with a box cutter...pretty easy. You want these to fit snug anyway. I don't use the directional feature as I surrounded my island with all 6...no need to turn any of the bulbs. it is so bright!! Top to learn more

Looks great
This looks great in our shower. I am so happy to have it. Very classy, yet understated, so that our tilework shines, and no one notices the overhead light except me because it's new. Easy to install, gives off a great amount of light... so far so good.

Product Description
A clean and simple trim for Halo's H7T and H7RT fixtures. It's wet-location listed, and the polymer trim is non-conductive and non-corrosive. With its "Air-Tite" construction, it will probably pay for itself in saved heating costs, too.--Josh Dettweiler
Shower light
This lens is good for shower installs. We matched it up with a Halo airtight housing and we are pleased. I did paint the plastic trim bright white to match the ceiling. I used spray paint for plastic. The color was just slightly off white. The lens attaches using wire hangers. You popped these hangers into the housing slots and push into place. When you want to change out the bulb you just pull down on the edge of the trim and it hangs in place but gives you room for your hand to put the bulb in. Easy. It is only rated for 45 watt incandescent bulb. We used a cfl bulb in it. Not too bright but just enough.

Works good for retro work
purchased several of these to replace some 4" recessed low voltage halogen fixtures that were having issues. Easy to wire and easy to install. The included trim is a little cheap and would fall out easily- but then I realized they added vinyl tubing sections over the clips to help hold them in. After replacing the tubing (which I thought was packaging) they fit much better. Will likely change out the default trim as their design will not accommodate the fluorescent PAR15 bulbs- just the standard incandescent style. Halo Baffle Recessed Lighting Kit 5-1/2 Height For Non-insulated Ceilings Or Where Insulation Can Be Kept 3 From Housing Use In 2 X 6 Joist Construction Can Be Installed From Below The Ceiling Includes 4 Remodel Housing Thermally Protected Ul Listed For Damp Locations Boxed Discovery Acc, Hwu White Baffle All items sold new in original packaging Top to learn more
The beauty of this Cooper Lighting recessed kit is that you no longer have to guess which housing belongs with which trim--the can and trim come packaged together. This combined packaging greatly simplifies the often confusing process of selecting recessed lighting.
The P432WB kit combines a white trim and white baffle with 5-1/2-inch high remodel housing. The light is thermally protected and listed for damp locations making it ideal for use in a variety of applications in new construction, remodels, or suspended ceilings. The low profile housing makes this an excellent choice for 2- by 6-inch joist construction common in older housing, or for installations with minimal available space. A combination of several recessed light kits can be used to accent a large area, or single lights can be strategically placed as task lighting in areas such as the kitchen, home office, or laundry room.
Proper installation of the light requires that insulation be kept three inches from the housing. To install with bar hangers, be sure to purchase 24-inch bar hangers P98 (sold separately). UL regulated for safety.--Bree Norlander

Halo 30WATH Recessed Light Trim
Purchased 8 of these to install in Halo H7ICT recessed light fixtures. They are easy to install, fit well, & should provide a good seal to prevent unconditioned attic air from entering conditioned spaces. The instructions that come with them could be a little more clear, but, installation can be easily figured out. The only drawback to using "airtight" trim pieces are the somewhat reduced lamp wattage that can be used in them (to prevent overheating). I advise taking note of the list of bulbs that the manufacturer recommends for these and making sure those bulbs will work for your application. I'm using 40 watt regular (A19) bulb and, because the 30WATH trim has a conical reflector, the light output is nice and bright. I recommend these to anyone interested in saving on heating and cooling costs. Top to learn more
Easy Install, Can Now Use Regular bulbs instead of reflectors
They went in easier than I expected, considering I was retrofitting 17-year old Juno fixtures. The only tricky part is detaching the lamp socket and squeezing it into the housing without tearing the gasket. If there is a flaw, it is the poorly placed, easily ripped gasket that seals between the socket and reflector. It's important to not man-handle the reflector or trim ring because they are pretty thin metal. I would also advise washing your hands after removing the old parts and before handling the new because dirt shows up really well on the white trim. And, as I mentioned in the title, I can now use cheaper "normal" bulbs instead of reflector ones and get lots of light. The old parts went into curb-side recycling and the new trim and better light make for an easy 15-minute can-light make-over. The baffle to end all baffles. The 30WATH offers you energy-efficiency, sturdy metal construction, and compatibility with a variety of lamps and housings. And it looks good, too. Features self-flanged socket supporting trim with torsion spring construction.--Josh Dettweiler
Better than nothing but not great
== Why we bought this product ==We have several Halo H7 ICT recessed can lights installed in about 2005. For some insane reason the person who installed them did not install airtight cans, even though there is an insulated attic above the ceiling, and the lack of airtightness means that warm, moist, conditioned air can potentially leak into the attic through the cans. Not only is this a waste of expensive heat, but in very cold weather the moisture in the conditioned air could condense on cold surfaces in the attic to form mold. After we moved in, I realized that none of the cans were airtight (surprise, surprise, the home inspector did not pick this up) so I had one in a bathroom replaced with a completely airtight can. However, with can replacement costing over $100 per can (mostly labor), it would be far too expensive to replace all the cans completely, so I looked for an alternative solution and came across these trims. Note, even my (very good) electrician did not know that... Top to learn more

Great, Mostly Air-Tight, But all IC Cans Have Limitations
I personally like the H7ICAT. I used this to add recessed lighting to my existing ceilings where the attic was accessible above. You will need at least 7.5" (see actual specs on Halo's website) of clearance. which stands above the 6" (5.5") beams in my attic. Even with an open attic, you will find cross beams that block a particular situtation laying across the beams at 5.5" of depth. They make the H27ICAT (or just H27IC if not air-tight) to fit in 6" of space. I have found the actual hole size to be 6 3/8".The air-tight seals aren't always perfectly affixed... but air-flow should definitely be very limited if any. It comes with a ring gasket that you stick on to the ceiling hole after you slip in the can. You basically cover the gap between the edge of the ceiling hole (on the room-facing bottom side) and wrap to the inner-can edge. Your trims go right over it. Personally, it doesn't fit (I too large for my can & hole), so it easily tears and is very sticky so I... Top to learn more

Product Description
This is the housing to use if you want a larger-aperture (six inches) lighting solution for installation in insulated ceilings. The H7ICAT offers a wide variety of trims to choose from so you can customize the unit to match your décor, finish, and desired lighting effects. The unit is air-tight with all available trims, which means no more leakage of warm air into your attic. (Compare to Halo's H7ICTNB, which gives you the added convenience of no-socket-plate construction, and the H7ICT, which is air-tight with certain trims.)
Like most of Halo's recessed lighting fixtures, the H7ICAT is designed for ease of installation and flexibility across a variety of materials and situations. The hanger bars include pre-installed nails (self-tapping screws are also available) in special housings that ensure smooth, straight penetration, whether you're working with laminated composites, engineered I-joists, open-web joist plates, or even frozen lumber. The automatic leveling flanges allow you to hold the housing securely in place with one hand while driving nails with the other. The housing also includes integral T-bar clips for use with suspended ceiling T-grid systems.
Halo also makes it easy to work in confined spaces. To install in joist spans of less than 12 inches, simply collapse the hanger bars then bend and break them along the score lines--no tools needed. The bars can also be removed and repositioned on the opposite side of the frame if you need to mount the unit at 90 degrees to the original configuration. Wiring is a breeze with Halo's patented Slide-N-Side wiring system, which allows wiring outside the junction box.
Trims sold separately. UL/cUL listed for damp location, feed through, and direct contact with insulation and combustible material.--Josh Dettweiler
It's a 6" can, not much more to say
We're using these things with Cree L6 LED modules and have no complaints about them in that capacity. The supplied port connectors have about a 10% failure rate (they fall off the tinned wires in the fixture and can't be reliably re-installed), the sheet metal on the hangers is flimsy (we've had to repair about 40% of them out of the box) and the gaskets look like they were applied by drunken lemurs -- in other words, just like every other 6" can out there.Amazon had basically no stock on this item, which is probably a good thing given that it motivated us to find someone who would deliver to the doorstep for about half the price asked by Amazon. Easy to install
Even though this is for a new house install, my husband was able to get to the location to use it for a renovation. The old light housing was not airtight and could not have any insulation touching it. This housing fixed that problem. We are very pleased with it and hubby said it was easy to install. He placed it in the old light location and had me help center it from below. I purchased a lens that is specifically for shower installs and we are good to go. You have a ton of lens choices for this housing. We are using a cfl bulb in it and it isn't that bright. I did't want the shower to be too bright. Top to learn more

Quick & Easy recessed lighting
This fixture is very easy to install, the six-inch size is versatile for many lighting situations, and there are many compatible trims available for this fixture. Highly recommended, though the prices online can be much higher than at your local big box stores, so it may pay to shop around if purchasing multiples. Top to learn more

easy to modify for LED later and it is "air tight"
The Halo H7 can is the most common high hat model sold by Cooper and they have kits that make it easy to change them later for use with LED modules when they come down in price. Not mentioned by the seller but this is a air tight can and if makes no sense to use any other type in a house with the costs of home heating. Standard cans will leak heat from the house up into the attic like crazy.Three different versions of the H7 for new construction only, for remodel, or for new construction and remodel. The size of the ceiling cutout is different for these. For the remodel one sold here you need a 6-1/4" while for the other two you need a 6-1/2" hole saw. If you are cutting through a plaster ceiling you will quickly find that these two sizes do not exist in carbide grit hole saws. Same goes for the Halo 3" recessed light cans that need a 3-3/4" ceiling hole.I rely more and more on my Hole Pro adjustable hole cutters with all the new sizes (Halo alone has 11... poor design for retrofit installation and bad template
Halo recessed can lights are easy to find and they make LED adapter kits which are not difficult to install. The can itself is a poor design for remodel use. The bracket between the can and the junction box is too thick and too high and the recommended opening is too small. The template that comes with the can is for a 6 1/4 inch hole and the can alone takes 6-3/8 with the tape and at that size pushing the arm and can through the hole can lead to broken sheetrock. The side clips depend on gravity to stay in position and this does not work well when having to tilt the can to get it into the opening. The Juno, Progress, Utilitech, and Con-tech light cans are a lot faster to install. The "air tight" is mostly hype. A thin piece of foam tape is wrapped part way around the can and is not about to make a tight seal. Any manufacturer can say they have a can that meets the new air tight regs but nobody is actually testing the cans to see if they really work and I have found none... Top to learn more

To put it differently, recessed lighting may be used to accessorize or to provide general, broad lighting into a fairly large area. This type of lighting can also be called retrofit lighting can or even pot lighting because it is embedded within the ceiling (or occasionally in the wall) and is also contained in a cylindrical textbox. Apart from changing the light bulbs, recessed lighting will be virtually easy to maintain. Based on the desired result, this type of lighting can offer diffused lighting or even a focused result. When renovating a ceiling to setup recessed lighting it could necessary to remove the drywall on the area to allow for the housing being attached to the joists. I bought a few to use for indoor recessed lighting fixtures as well as outdoor security floodlights and they work wonderfully.
