Very Satisfied
I am very happy with this receiver and had no problems with set up. My system is fairly simple but it replaced a Pioneer receiver with no HDMI inputs, so it is nice to be up with the times. I went ahead and upgraded to a Sony BX37 Blue Ray player as well. I went from cord all over the place to 3 HDMI cords: (FIOS to TIVO), TIVO to receiver, Receiver to TV, Blue Ray player to receiver. I had a box of old optical, analog and component video connectors left! I especially like the fact that the TV still gets picture and sound even with the receiver in Standby, and that the receiver and blu ray player can be operated from the same remote. Many options for surround sound etc. so I am just scratching the surface. Very nice value for the money:)

Awesome Bang for the Buck
I was originally looking at Pioneer and Denon before this Sony caught my eye. For the price and the features, this thing seemed like almost too good to be true. Fortunately, it's a solid product. It may lack some of the higher end bells and whistles (S-AIR, AirPlay, etc) but for a solid 7.1 system for a living room, it's awesome. It drives a set of Sony 7.1 speakers very well and offers very clear, dynamic sound. This may not be the best choice if you have a huge living room, but I barely tap its power before it gets more than loud enough for my condo. All in all, it's an excellent product for an excellent price here on Amazon.

Perfect.
I luv this receiver, it has every feature available except one, no S-Air slot for wireless speaker capability. I have this DH-520 and a Sony S-480 blu-ray player. I am finally able to take advantage of my Sony bravia Hdtv, Sony 3d HD receiver and Sony blu ray, i have always wanted to hear dts-hd and dolby truehd audio formats, the receiver will decode ANY audio format available, I also like that you can change up the speakerpattern from7.1, 7.0, 6.1, 6.0, 5.1, 5.0, 4.1, 4.0, 3.1, 3.0 and 2.1 and 2.0. Awesome, very fast to switch between one another. Thanks to bravia sync, my 40" HDTV, my HD 3D receiver and my blu-ray player can all be controlled with one remote, any remote from the 3 units. Also this receiver has a nice selection of sound fields available, from HD-D.C.S, to PL, PLII, PLIIx, PLIIz, and neo:6 BUT...I dont notice much difference wit this and my old setup: a 1080p upscaling dvd player and a 6.1 sony reeiver. whenplaying a dvd with the 1080p dvd player using dts-es with the...

No frills, good sound
This receiver replaced a Sony STR 397 that had a continuous static problem that was never fixed. I gave up on the Sony and bought the Onkyo. I use it to power two Polk tower speakers hooked up to my HDTV and DVD player. The receiver is basic, no frills. Bass, treble and balance controls are on the front panel. There is no loudness control. There are multiple memory settings for music stations. All the standard connections are in the back including an input for an iPod (docking station extra). The tuner works well and has standard scanning for stations. The receiver is rated at 50W per channel. It is plenty adequate for the Polks. The sound is clear and unvarnished. It produces a crisper, cleaner sound than the Sony. For sound reproduction without lots of frills and buttons, this has proved an excellent choice. I am very pleased with the item.Once again, I have to complement Amazon for having excellent pricing and incredible free...

The amazing invisible amp.
I bought this receiver to replace a fine amp, preamp combo that was 25 years old and had served me well (a NAD). So this one has a tuner built in - oh well. I'll almost never play the radio. But this unit is just amazing. It impresses me as being totally transparent. There is no noise, no hum, no nothing to let me know that I'm listening to a cd, unless the signal is on the cd or other audio source. Either stuff has gotten a lot better in the last 25 years, or my hearing has deteriorated. Heh heh - both are true. I've only had it two days, so I know nothing of durability. It's driving a couple of IMF speakers which are quite power hungry - no sweat, they just sing beautifully.

A Very Good Two Channel Receiver
I would like to offer my own personal opinion regarding my purchase and use of the Onkyo Receiver model TX 8255. Right off the top I must admit that I am more pleased with this receiver than I have ever been with any other receiver I have owned. I go back to the days of tube type components and I have owned a couple of the old style Marantz receivers, a Yamaha and a Harmon Kardon as well as Mackintosh components over the years and all have performed to varying degrees of satisfaction. Each unit had it's pro and cons as they should. Recently I had an issue with my last receiver and had the problem repaired on a number of occasions but the repair only lasted maybe a year and then I was back to the same problem. I decided that it was time for something else and basically what I wanted was a simple two channel stereo receiver that would power my Paradigm tower speakers and sound decent with no performance issues as well as have a very acceptable AM/FM receiver section. After doing some...

Awesome!
I am a happy camper with my new Sony STR-DH100 receiver. It has brought my Boston speakers to life, so it's like I got a new receiver and new speakers. I thought the speakers sounded good before, but after connecting to the Sony it blew me away! I have never heard such good sound at home before. I am a musician so I've spent what money I've had on instruments and amps at the expense of a good stereo system. I've been missing out all these years on quality audio experience! I've ordered a phono amp as there is no phono input, but I love it and it's a small price to pay. Get one!

Was Hoping For A Little More Personality!
I have to say up front that I've only spent a week with my new Sony and my opinion may change but due to the lack of reviews here are my first impressions: This is a very capable receiver, nicely built with a useful and easy to understand remote. I, like most people reading this, was looking for a second receiver to put in my den to listen to cd's, mp3, and internet radio. My main Home Theater Receiver is a Denon. The Sony has a nice full sound and is easy to adjust to your liking. There are bass and treble controls on the remote, a plus for me. So far I am happy with the sound but I can tell something is lacking, a depth or warmth, whatever you want to call it, I imagine the Onkyo 8255 has what I really want but at 50 less watts per channel and $50.00 more in price. To be honest I don't know if the trade off is worth it but for those of you who have been trying to decide which one to buy I made my decision to try the less expensive new model from Sony first, then after a week or two...

Low cost,quality receiver
The sound from my HDTV just didn't do the job. I didn't want a full blown theater system just some good sound. I settled on the Sony because of their reputation and price. Paired with a couple of good bookshelf speakers the Sony has done exactly what I wanted. Full sound, good bass at a reasonable price. The key to any receiver is good speakers but I am very satisfied with the combo I have. The Sony is a good value.

A lot of product for the price!
My old Onkyo died, so I went on Amazon to look for its replacement. At first I was going to go with the TX-NR414 but upon comparing the features to the TX-NR515 it became clear that I should spend the minor amount of extra money for the upgrade. It just arrived yesterday and I set it up right away. Wow that a device! An HDMI port for anything you can think of, and two out so you can send the signal to another TV (say a TV in the kitchen etc). It's internet ready and I love that I can stream Pandora and Sirius-XM on it.Downloaded the app for my Android right away and can now sit back and really dial into the controls of the NR515 right from my phone. Another useful feature is that is will upscale and convert analog to HDMI so the days of hooking a ton of cables up to your TV are gone. Bang for the buck this thing will blow you away. Great purchase, and with firmware updates I bet it will get only better!

Not bad, but the second output has it's limitations
I think a lot of people will be interested in this receiver for the low price point with a secondary HDMI output. While it does work, there are some limitations that I wish I was aware of.First of all, here is my setup:Room 1Samsung PN64550 3D PlasmaOnkyo NR 515Direct TV HR24-100Original PS3Room 2Samsung LN46530 LCD (Non-3D)Issue #1 with second HDMI outputYou can't get sound out of your receiver speakers and your internal speakers on the second TV at the same time. As I mentioned above, my TV's are in two different rooms. The 3D plasma is using the speakers hooked up to the AVR and I would like to use the internal speakers on the second TV. Once I turn off the receiver, it will send audio to the second TV via the HDMI standby pass through. If you are never planning to watch both TV's at once, then I guess this isn't a big deal. I asked Onkyo support for a work around but I haven't heard back yet...

Not bad, but not without issues
I waited and waited for this unit to be released for the dual HDMI monitor out. Unfortunately, it works much differently than I expected it to. I wanted to drive my theater speakers and HDTV in one room, and an additional HDTV using its internal speakers in another room. It turns out that it will not work in this manner. You can enable AUDIO TV OUT to get audio on two HDTVs simultaneously but you would have to use the internal sound on both TVs. It is amazing to me that setting AUDIO TV OUT disables the speakers, but that is exactly how this works. Also, two times in two days the monitor outs have stopped working due to a "resolution error" and the only way to fix it was to unplug the unit and plug it back in. Both sets support full HD 1080p so there are some bugs in this receiver software. I upgraded it to the new firmware when I first got it, so here's hoping that another fix will be forthcoming. I'm actually debating about keeping this thing, except for the fact that I...

Good Receiver, no Manual
I just hooked this up to my system, which is lacking mounts for the rear speakers so I can't speak to the surround sound capabilities yet, but first impressions are positive.First, my only major complaint, and the reason for only 4 stars. There is no printed manual supplied with this receiver. All you get is a quick start guide that's a few pages long, enough to get you running, but sorely lacking in any real information. I posted a URL to the user manual I found in the comments. The product pictures are accurate, and the speaker connections in the back fit common banana plugs perfectly. Included accessories are a remote (with batteries), a microphone for the automatic speaker configuration (haven't tried this since my rear speakers aren't placed yet), and AM and FM antennas. The AM antenna is cheap but works well enough. The FM antenna is just one of those little wires and it sucks. If you do any serious FM radio listening, you'll want to acquire a...

Then I found out this new receiver Onkyo is releasing and was due to be out pretty soon. I liked the Denon's features, especially the built in HD Radio which I miss in this Onkyo. Anyway, I still love the new Onkyo TX-NR609.The OSD GUI is fabulous and very pleasing to the eye. Pandora, Slacker, vTuner, and DLNA features are very attractive for my likes and will most likely use them the most, among the other 'Internet' features. Love it, love it, love it!
We just got our TX-NR609 yesterday. The sturdiness of the product harkens to decades ago, when you could still pick up a stereo amplifier with a real metal case and it weighed something. At 32 lbs. shipping weight, it surprised us in a good way.We purchased the unit as a replacement for an entry level Dolby Digital/DTS HD 5.1/6.1 receiver, primarily for the ability to use HDMI connectivity throughout the home theater system, for uncompressed audio signals and ease of signal switching. Also, THX certification at this price point is positively amazing. Don't let the name of the certification fool you - the certification level is based on room size, and this unit is certified for the vast majority of home theater sizes.Connecting the components and speakers was extremely easy and required only one configuration change in the unit for a device which does not have an HDMI output and had to be connected via component video and stereo audio.Running the...
