Screams.
During my most recent build I upgraded from a Q6600 -- which was a good chip back in its day. This chip SCREAMS, however.I have it overclocked to 4.5 Ghz on ASUS P8P67 PRO motherboard with 8 gigs of G Skill ripjaws ram using the Asus AI Suite. Windows Experience Index gives this a score of 7.8 in my system. Passmark Software CPU Benchmark (google them) ranks this processor the 7th best performing CPU, in the following order (it was Number 3 when I bought it):Intel Core i7 990X @ 3.47GHz cpu mark: 10,917 NAIntel Core i7 995X @ 3.60GHz cpu mark: 10,795 NAIntel Core i7 980X @ 3.33GHz cpu mark: 10,482 $999.99*Intel Core i7 970 @ 3.20GHz cpu mark: 9,925 $899.99**Intel Xeon X5680 @ 3.33GHz cpu mark: 9,721 $1,676.49*Intel Xeon W3680 @ 3.33GHz cpu mark: 9,655 $1,127.12*Intel Xeon X5675 @ 3.07GHz cpu mark: 9,326 NAIntel Core i7-2600K @ 3.40GHz cpu mark: 9,291 $329.99**Note that three of the CPU's...

Great CPU!
I've upgraded from my E8400 to this CPU. Even when not overclocked, 2600K outperforms my E8400 exactly 3 times in video processing and rendering. Considering what I've paid for E8400 several years ago, difference in speed is just excellent.

Great Processor - Fast, Overclockable, Cheap!
This processor is so much faster than my prior build, a Core i7-920, it's amazing. This puppy is almost as fast as the fastest $1,000 Gulf Town processor, for 1/3rd the price! It's performing flawlessly for me so far. I'm still playing with the overclocking, but some of my friends have gotten this chip up to 5.2 Ghz and beyond using just air cooling on the same motherboard I have, the Asus Maximus IV Extreme. I'm still playing around in the high 4s.The design of the Sandy Bridge CPUs appear flawless. I'm just bummed that they wasted all those transistors on a useless (for many of us), mediocre video processor. The "Cougar Point" P67/H67 Chipset problem is easily avoided. Just don't use the Intel SATA II ports on your Motherboard! No big deal if you have a good quality Motherboard with ample SATA III and non-Intel SATA II ports. How many people have more than 4 Optical and HDDs in their system anyway? The fellow who blamed the problem on the Sandy Bridge...

Boom for your Buck
I bought this as an upgrade for a stalwart Intel q6600 Core 2 Quad system I have been using for the past two years. My previous q6600 system was over-clocked (3.0ghz) and coupled with high performance parts to maximize efficacy. I figured this chip would be a MILD improvement over my aforementioned unit. Delightfully, I was WRONG.The 2500k:Saying this chip is a good "bang for the buck" is somewhat inaccurate. It's a sonic boom for the buck. It over-clocks to 4.5Ghz on air with moderate temperatures with a basic ($30) after-market air cooler and runs completly stable. I decided to run this chip on a daily basis at 4.0Ghz to preserve the longevity of its operation. This chip is excellent for use in programs like Photoshop, Adobe Creative Suite, and of course gaming. Providing you have an adequate video card this CPU simply WILL NOT let you down in intense graphic CPU-based games (Star Craft 2) or taxing programs (CS4+).CONCLUSION:This...

Very easy to overclock
I have it running at 4.9 GHz with liquid cooling, and no stability issues. It was able to be overclocked up to 4.0 GHz with stock cooling. If you're building a computer with this CPU, make sure that your motherboard is compatible. Only a motherboard with LGA 1155 will work with 2nd-generation Intel processors (e.g. this one). There are three types of motherboards with LGA 1155: H67, P67, and Z68. Motherboards with H67 don't allow you to overclock. P67 motherboards allow you to overclock, but don't allow you to use the CPU's built-in graphics card (so you will have to buy a separate graphics card). Z68 motherboards don't have any restrictions. Personally, I chose to buy a P67 motherboard because it was slightly cheaper than Z68, and I didn't need the built-in graphics. But it's really up to you.

You're going to love this!!!!
Greetings and welcome to the ultimate review; written by: L2MICRO! (CPU Code name: Sandy Bridge)This chip handles everything! It is great for gaming, photo editing, video streaming, etc.First Things First(IMPORTANT!!!) This chip does not go into an H55 motherboard. I can't stress this enough! The 1156 sockets are not compatible with this chip. If you want to get this chip, you need to either upgrade to a P67/H67 or Z68 motherboard first. The socket you need is a LGA 1155. This is you're only major requirement. This chip is EXTREMELY similar to the i7 2600k, but at 100 dollars cheaper, the single most major difference between an i5 2500k and an i7 2600k, is the Hyper Threading feature that the i7 2600k has. The i5 2500k does not have it. If you're in the market for an Intel processor and all you do is game, some photo editing with Photoshop, or stream, than get your hands on an i5 2500k (The k means overclock-able. no K means the core speed is locked...

Good Overclocker and CPU
Alright so this is a great processor! Installed easy and the heat sink comes with thermal paste applied for convenience. Easy to install and instructions are simple. This also overclocks well. I got it up to 3.8GHz with the stock cooler never reaching about 75C. I am sure you can push this much further with no problem but I did not want to push my luck. Overall I think this is an excellent choice for people that use a computer for light to moderate gaming or multitasking.-----Pros-----Easy to installEasy to understand instructionsCan overclock to 3.8GHz with stock coolerNever goes above 75C even with overclock.FastDuel threads per coreIntegrated video controller-----Cons-----Not the fastest for video editing or other programs that support many cores wellNot much to complain about works like it should.

Good performance at a reasonable price
I purchased this CPU with a Gigabyte motherboard at a local retail store to replace a 4-year old 3.0GHz Pentium-4HT home server running Linux. No computation-heavy tasks have run so far.Very good news is the power consumption has reduced dramatically. The old server often reported automatic reduction of CPU clock due to excess CPU temperatures in summer. The system power consumption is now only 70W down from 120W including motherboard and a 4-disk RAID5 array on both systems.

Good Quality CPU
This is a good CPU. I paired it with a Gigabyte GA-H57 USB3 motherboard. Easy to install, package included cooling fan with thermal grease already installed. I didn't realize that the i3 doesn't have Intel's "Turbo Boost" but that is not an issue with the processor just my research. However, the processor is fast at a good price and the integrated graphics controller works well and is good for everyday systems.

Customer Review

Hello, my new love!
Let me just preface this review by saying I'm only reviewing this processor based on my own experience, not by benchmarks, which, by the way, seem to be sorely lacking for this particular processor.I've upgraded from an Athlon II X4 630, and I'm running the processor on an ASUS M5A87 motherboard with the 0701 BIOS update. Updating the BIOS via ASUS' utility was a little nerve-wracking, but ultimately painless, and the FX-8120 works flawlessly with it. Installation of the processor with stock cooler was also reasonably painless, though the lever on the cooler didn't exactly function intuitively, and the pictures in the manual were useless. I had to watch a YouTube video just to make sure I was doing it right. This doesn't matter, though, because you don't want to use the stock cooler, even if you're not overclocking. Trust me.The big minus to this processor is the utterly hideous stock cooler. At idle, it's dead silent, true. Idle temperatures were 18...

Performance you can see!
Everyone gets so caught up comparing numbers on a chart instead of actually using the systems. I built my system using a 8120 and am very happy with it. It performs as well as my buddies Intel rig that cost him twice the price. He can point to a graph and show me his system wins, I point to my wallet and say I am the winner. I hope we never go back to the days when Intel is the only choice. Intel is a better company because of AMD and we (the consumer) are much better off. I hope AMD builds better processors in the future but even if they do I don't have the buck$ to drop an a $1000 chip. The 8120 is well worth the performance you get for the dollars and I for one will continue to support AMD whenever possible.

This is Bulldozer, AMD's Brand New Design based on Socket AM3+
The Title is Wrong, this CPU is Socket AM3+....For Price/Performance this 8-Core CPU is a winner.AMD FX 8120 (Code Name Bulldozer) will give you high performance in highly threaded Applications and Benchmarks with Newer Code. It currently stands it's ground, but it will be difficult to make all those cores work for you with todays lacking software.AMD really went far out with this style of design and put a lot of time and pure Innovation into it. For that alone they get 5***** from me.The cool part about this 8-Core Monster is the fact you can turn cores and threads on and off at will via Bios and AMD's FX software. This is a Black Edition which means you can also Overclock the CPU in a safe manner by means of a built in technique called Turbo Core. You can use Turbo Core to increase clock speeds when needed and/or you can manually Overclock it through the Bios and/or AMD's FX software. You can run this as 4 cores with 4 threads, 2 cores...

Epic AMD Power
I decided to take my grad money to the local computer store! After getting suggestions from my fellow computer nerd friends I decided to, among other things, pick up this CPU(AMD Phenom II x4 965 Black Edition AM3 125w) NOT the 145w version.Just Cause 2 was stable in high resolution settings when outputting to my 40" LCD HDTV in 1360x768. Crysis Warhead runs great on enthusiast(max details) with Anti-Aliasing turned OFF. I'm running the CPU overclocked at 3.85Ghz. Ran Prime95 for 4 hours and it never restarted or hiccuped. When I had it at 3.96 it was not happy and restarted a minute into the stress test. At [...] they got it stable at 3.86. You can go higher but you are taking risks even with a better cooler. I have a Cooler Master hyper 212 Plus.It runs about 53 degrees at stress. My motherboard (Asus M4A79xtd EVO unlocked all 4 cores)The CPU seems to handle everything I can throw at it. Video Encoding speeds are decent. A two hour DVD...

...and this is the "cheaper" processor!?
Although some people have overclocked this CPU, for my budget media PC build, 3.0 GHz serves me just fine, especially on each core. All I can say if "wow"! I was a bit upset that my budget at the time did not allow for the Phenom IIx6 that I wanted to get, but seeing this in action I can say that I am not disappointed.Sure it may be 75-85% of the Intel, but my real-world usage says to me that for the price, I made the right choice.
