Durable inflatable boat
I've been dragging this thing around for at least five years. Mostly used for small inland lakes in Michigan. Nothing's broke. Seams have held up well.

Excellent for the price
I have sort of a love/hate relationship with the boat. It works as advertised and I still believe it is the best boat for the money. One side of my pontoon leaked the first time I used it. Patched it as best I could but I think it is on a seam. Having the duel air chambers is super. Even if one chamber leaks, you can stay afloat and can add air to fill the other chamber. This can save your trip. The oars are excellent. I use a small trolling motor, but it is difficult to use placed behind you. Your head is always in the way. I will never go back to a float tube this is much better. The pontoon works better than a canoe or john boat because you can use your flippers for most of your movement. I haul this boat on the top of my car and it is easy to load and unload. While it isn't perfect, it is the best unit for the money and is super for fly fishing on small to medium sized lakes.

An enchanting read from a master storyteller
Garrison Keillor, best known for his long-running radio saga A Prairie Home Companion, has created another memorable portrait of the Midwest in Pontoon. His fictitious farming town of Lake Wobegon, Minnesota is populated by Scandinavian descendants whose lives revolve around church services and gossip, not necessarily in that order. The town's two religious beacons are the Catholic parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Responsibility and the Lake Wobegon Lutheran Church. The residents are proud of their Scandinavian heritage, including the town statue of the Unknown Norwegian and omnipresent lutefisk at church functions.I grew up listening to Garrison on A Prairie Home Companion and attempted (unsuccessfully) to watch the recent Robert Altman film adaptation, so when I saw Pontoon, I snapped it up. Part of my love affair with Lake Wobegon stems from my own immigrant background; my grandmother immigrated from Poland in 1913, and my youth was spent at Polish masses and social...

A fresh and funny Lake Wobegon novel about a woman with a secret life

In Lake Wobegon lives a good Lutheran lady who is quite prepared to die and wishes to be cremated and her ashes placed inside a bowling ball and dropped into the lake, no prayers, no hymns, thank you very much.  Meanwhile, the Detmer girl returns from California where she has made a killing in veterinary aromatherapy to marry her boyfriend Brent aboard Wally's pontoon boat, presided over by her minister, Misty Naylor of the Sisterhood of the Sacred Spirit.  Brent arrives on Thursday.  On Saturday, a delegation of renegade Lutheran pastors from Denmark come to town on their tour of America, their punishment for having denied the divinity of Jesus.  And Barbara Peterson, whose mother, Evelyn, left the startling note about cremation and the bowling ball, is in love with a lovely fat man who slips around town in the dim light and reconnoiters with her at the Romeo Motel.

An the then there is Raoul of the cigars and tinted shades and rainbow sportscoat and his long phone message ("Hey, Precious") after the angel of death has already come and gone.

All is in readiness for the wedding--the giant shrimp shish kebabs, the French champagne, the wheels of imported cheese, the pate with whole peppercorns, the hot-air balloon, the flying Elvis, the pontoon boat, and the giant duck decoys--and then something else happens.

It is Lake Wobegon as you've imagined it--good loving people who drive each other slightly crazy. Top to learn more

Noboby's better at humor mixed with pathos
It's been about four years since the last Wobegone book, LAKE WOBEGONE SUMMER 1956. That one featured Gary, Keillor's alter ego. I didn't really like it until I heard excerpts from it in one of Keillor's Prairie Home Companion PBS specials. Suddenly, it got a whole lot better. The man has the best "radio" voice since Jean Shepherd.I liked PONTOON a little bit better because these characters seem a whole lot more real. Evelyn Peterson is an 82-year-old Lutheran lady who dies at the beginning of the book. She had no time for funerals. She wants to be cremated, her ashes put in a bowling ball and thrown in a lake. She leaves a letter for daughter Barbara outlining her wishes. Barbara also discovers letters from Raoul, a lover she never knew her mother had. If you live in Minnesota you'll recognize Raoul. He's a moderator of a children's show that featured THE LITTLE RASCALS who sounds a whole lot like Clelland Card, creator of "Axel and his Dog."The other...

Keillor makes a comeback!
Having at one time been a huge fan, I had pretty much declared myself completely finished with reading or listening to Garrison Keillor--done with hearing him in love with the sound of breathing through his nose on the Writer's Almanac, done with his increasingly indulgent weekend radio show (and the sycophantic and pretentious NPR listeners that praise it), and done with that horribly boring and eventless movie based on his work--when someone gave me this.I listened to it, for lack of anything else to listen to on my morning drive, and I have to say: I liked it. It's good. The characters, for the most part seem real and believable, the action is amusing, and the writing is clear and often funny."Pontoon" tells the antilinear story of a woman's death--of her life before it, of her family, of her neighbors, and it manages to entwine all of these lives into an amusing (if somewhat predictable and drawn-out and over-the-top) ending. It's touching and...

Customer Review

Works great for me.
Don't people research this type of stuff before they purchase it? I bought one of these with 4 speakers to use on my fishing boat.Everything works excellent. Decent enough sound quality. Installation is a breeze. For me the SD card function and AUX port are awesome. Nice bright display. Works for me.The down side, controls take some getting used to & can be confusing, as in like to many options. The remote control is a line of sight device, meaning you have to have it pointed directly at the radio, but it does work from a distance. After 2 years on a boat I'm surprised the remote hasn't fallen in the lake anyways.Would I recommend it? Sure, decent price and value. It's a great deal for a boat with an outboard setup because the power consumption is very low. My old radio got pulled out because of it constantly draining the battery down. This one does not. I can listen to for two days while I'm fixing up the boat on the driveway or working in the garage...

Pontoons News

  • Boat industry stays afloat

“The huge increase in our pontoon sales has been family driven,” Zunker said. “Instead of going to Disney or vacationing out of state, people are buying boats and staying local — they're investing that money for 10 years instead of seven days.

  • Hartford show reports attendance boost

“They're asking buying questions,” said Ryan Kagy, the Ohio-based regional sales manager for Premier pontoons. “People aren't coming up to you and asking a bunch of questions, then walking away.” About 50 dealers displayed more than 200 boats.

  • Largest regional boat show marks 40 years in Charlotte

It's also a great way to promote pontoon rentals at Tega Cay. “We always give away a full day rental (at the show),” Coley said. But the show isn't just for customers looking to make large purchases. Included is the “Let's Get Nautical” fashion shows
