Elegant Simple and Quiet
I tend to research or over research something before I buy it, suffering research remorse before I ever purchase and the garage door opener was no different.When my 10 year old Craftsman chain drive opener on the main garage door quit working past the point of my ability or at least willingness to repair it again, I set off on a search of designs, service life and reviews of what is available today.Until I came across the Sommer design my preference was screw drive openers. I still curse the day I sold my old house and didn't take the 25+ year old Genie screw drive opener without safety features with me.The first realization is this; there's really only 4 "main" manufactures of garage door hardware and designs in the US; Genie, Liftmaster, Chamberlain and Wayne Dalton. To make it worse they even use each others parts, so what is one is often times found in another manufactures model, not just by similar design, but by actual part number.I focused on screw...

Sommer Synoris 550 Garage Door Opener
Purchased the Sommer Direct Drive Garage Door opener for my home when the builder installed Chamberlain Liftmaster (5 years old) went bad. The logic board went up and I was not going to spend over $100 to replace it, so I decided to purchase a new opener. After researching several brands, I chose the Sommer and I am very happy with it.Upon receiving the Sommer, I pre-installed the unit on my workbench according to the instructions. Then the next day, I removed the Chamberlain unit, the chain belt, all wiring, and sensors. This and the installation of the Sommer took about 2 hours and went smoothly. When everything was in place and connected, I then set about programming the two (2) remote controls. This was accomplished in less than 2 minutes. I did have a problem...

Sommer Synoris 550 Garage Door Opener
When my old Craftsman chain-drive garage door opener refused to adjust and tore the pulley off of its motor, I searched for something better while shopping online. I found the Sommer 3/4 hp direct-drive garage door opener. I like the new efficient design with very few moving parts. I was a bit skeptical because it's new to the USA (#1 in Europe) and there weren't many reviews of the product, though most reviews were very positive. Once set up, the opener is very quiet and gentle. It is now hard to hear the garage door opening. 2 remotes are included, as well as a wall station control. An outdoor keypad is optional. Installation took a bit longer than stated. The instructions are a bit lacking. Drawings show 2 sections of the C-rail (track) with the lettered stops facing each other on either side of the junction piece of the C-rail. Nowhere does it specifically say to slide the carriage (motor) onto the C-rail between the stops. Not hard to figure out but instructions should be clear...

Very Nice
Works great for T leg ironing board. Well made and sturdy. Mine is hung over the back side of my walk-in closet door. Where it hooks over the front side of the door it hangs down 3/4" -barely noticeable. It is thin enough for the door to shut with no problem yet sturdy enough to hold a fairly heavy ironing board securely. On the back side of the door it hangs down 9". The hooks stick out 2" from the back of the door with plastic covering tips to protect the board. With the ironing board attached the total it sticks out is 3" from the back of the door. Would easily fit over a door up to 1 5/8' thick. I chose this type because I didn't want to hang my iron with the board. I set the iron on a shelf next to the door. I highly recommend this ironing board holder if this style fits your needs. Top to learn more
Great way to store the ironing board!
Two days ago I got the bright idea to look for a holder for our ironing board as I was tired of tripping over it in the laundry room. I found this one through Amazon and ordered it right away. The holder arrived today and I took it down to the laundry room to try it out. It held the ironing board just like I thought it would, but when I went to close the door - it wouldn't close! Aaargh! My handy husband came down to see what all the fuss was about. He thought it was strange that it was curved at the top as that's why the door wouldn't close. Then he started laughing. "You put it on upside down!" Sure enough, when he flipped it the other way, it still held my ironing board but now the top of the holder was flat and the door closed easily.
